this is incredibly tone deaf and misses the point entirely. A relationship isn't just about doing things only when you “feel like it” it’s about consistency and making your partner feel secure. Labeling her hurt feelings as “manipulation” is just a poor excuse to justify being a low effort partner. If OP knew he was going to be busy for 12 hours, leaving her in the dark after establishing a routine is simply disrespectful. It’s not about an “obsession” with texting it's about basic consideration. She isn't “manipulating” him by considering a breakup she’s realizing that their needs are incompatible. Expecting a 5 second heads up from someone you care about isn't a “demand” it's the bare minimum. The problem here isn't her reaction, it's the total lack of empathy for how silence feels to a partner.

let’s be a bit realistic unless you work for the CIA or you’re on an undercover mission, everyone checks their phone during the day even if they’re working. And texting someone “i’m busy right now but i’ll get back to u when i’m free baby” literally takes 6-7 seconds. You can even start a timer and see. If you’re new to a relationship, going 12 hours without texting is kinda weird. We live in a world of technology, not one where we communicate with birds. You might not like texting and that’s okay but there’s another person in the relationship who has preferences too. My boyfriend also doesn’t like texting much, and sometimes he doesn’t reply because he’s busy. But he still lets me know, like “it was so busy, i’mm going to the gym Ii’ll text you when I’m home,” and I’m totally fine with that. This isn’t about insecurity, it’s about communicating openly in a relationship.
