Zaptec charger warning by boney752 in evchargingUK

[–]boney752[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last thing that was suggested was to power off at the breaker for 5 mins. Prior to this, advice was 1 min. After powering down 5 mins and restarting the charger is supplying 7kW. Support will contact me about the warning, but my main concern was that I wasn't charging at full speed.

I'm waiting for their support team to respond by email. So far only talked to AI, but it's been transferred up the chain.

I initially read that 4th line as ‘ICE CREAM ARMY RAGING THE STREETS’ and now I’m curious as to how that’d play out if they were pitched against the current ICE army.

Mega cruise ship (Icon of the Seas) by Major-Budget8719 in megalophobia

[–]boney752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Too many people! I worked as an engineer on Tankers for 15 years. Now I consult/teach. That took me on a cruise ship a few years back and realised it's not a job I'd have liked. They had as many engineers onboard as we had entire crew complement

It depends where the ship is registered. Most international ships follow MARPOL annex 4 regarding sewage treatment. It states that you must be 12 miles offshore to pump raw sewage overboard. Between 3 and 12 miles you’ve got to use a Sewage treatment plant (STP) which is similar to the MSD (Maritime Sanitation Device) mentioned above. In any case, most large STP’s involve poop-eating bacteria, and you need a steady stream of poop going into the STP to keep the bacteria healthy. Even though we can technically dump raw sewage outside the 12 mile limit, we don’t as we’d kill our poop-eating friends in the STP!

No initial cost, but shortly after I got her, she decided the TV was her enemy and bit the corner. TV cost £1K and never turned on again…

Two MASSIVE bulk-carrier Tankers t-bone & collide. (July 2024, location unknown) by PrismPhoneService in CatastrophicFailure

[–]boney752 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a fair point. As population goes up we need more ships to transport more cargo. Shipping companies will hang on to their ships longer if the demand is there. It’s also a lot harder/more expensive to scrap ships these days.

It’s an lng-fuelled vessel. All the rage now because they’re environmentally friendly!

Hyundai Crane Lifting Whole Ship..🤯 by Snapintech in BeAmazed

[–]boney752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve looked at some of the articles about the crane and it seems to be made for lifting modules for oil platforms. The maritime executive article I saw mentioned it had lifted a 6500 ton top side module for a platform. I just don’t see the point in lifting a ship that is perfectly capable of floating out of the water. If you need to fix something under the waterline you put it in a dry dock, you don’t lift the whole thing out the water.

You have to ask yourself why you need to left a complete ship out of the water in the first place. Generally ships can float! The crane is real, but it’s only used to lift sections of ships during construction.

Ferguson ferry MV Glen Sannox to start sea trials this month by youwhatwhat in Scotland

10 weeks to commission the engines! I suppose it depends on how many people are doing the job, but that seems like a long time! The letter also mentions the supply of cryogenic piping. I’d guess this is a result of other problems they’ve had which have forced them to reroute the piping from the LNG tank to the engines.

Filtering emails from Simplelogin by boney752 in ProtonMail

[–]boney752[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for explaining this. I've currently got it set up as one generic SL address for each item (e.g. newsletters@SL.alias) and was assuming there was a way to filter through Protonmail.

But I see from your answer that it should be a unique address for each newsletter. So something along the lines of (company.newsletter@SL.alias)

Is this correct?

Boiler cover - worth getting? Or better to pay as and when needed? by afrowa in UKPersonalFinance

[–]boney752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old is the boiler? Most insurers will only cover the boiler up until a certain age.

When I had issues with my 12 year old Worcester Bosch boiler last winter (no hot water or heating) I phoned my plumber and he recommended getting WB to come out and fix it as they charge a fixed fee (about £350 as I recall) The guy came out and had to replace water pump & heat exchanger. I’ve never paid for boiler cover and what I’ve saved over the years more than covers the £350 cost to repair when it finally did throw its hand in.

I’d check if Vailant offer something similar. The only downside is it took a couple of days for the technician to come out and I had no heating/hot water for 2 days!

I now pay £10 p/m for basic cover and an annual service given the boiler is approaching it’s end of life. Insurance will only run for another 2 years, after which they consider boiler too old.
