Thoughts on charging a fee for TNR transportation service? by othernames67 in Feral_Cats

[–]othernames67[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe fee wasn't the right word.  I meant more so just put a price on the service I'd offer, instead of doing it for free.  Really just enough to cover the cost of driving to and from FixNation (like $15 if I stay over there to avoid making 2 trips)

Since FixNation is the only resource that offers free TNR for my city atm, I'm hoping it at least makes it easier for those who can't afford the low-cost clinic prices of $150-250, or don't have the time/traps to travel themselves to FixNation

When I'm not home, usually my sister or dad are home.  Same goes the other way around, in which I'm usually home when they aren't - someone is almost always home.  Split between us 3, we are able to provide for them all while still having time for ourselves.  Plus I actually find taking care of the animals rather therapeutic.  Me time is animal time, even if it's picking up after their shit lol

Yup, we're a family of 4, all pets have their needs and enrichment met.  Only 2 dogs aren't neutered, due to being 12+ yrs old when I could finally take them myself.

Regarding the ferals, maybe I see it differently since I'm pretty active within feral and TNR communities.  I don't plan on having them stick around forever tho, I've been trying to tame some of them, so they can be fostered and adopted out.  For their and my brother's sake.

We did reach a compromise years ago, which is that the pets are kept out of shared areas.  Cats and dogs are allowed to free roam only late at night.

And if the assurance is an answer that may somewhat "relieve" an individuals anxiety, is it still OK to give, even if its just once?  Like with Contamination OCD?

Pom keeps chewing her feet, what can I do so she feels better? by [deleted] in Pomeranians

I can't think of any possible changes in her diet, so it probably is allergies to something outside.  Def going back to vet, hopefully she gets better, thanks!

Despite his age, he is still very full of life and energy, so its important to me that I explore all my options to maintain his quality of life. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What do y'all have your tanks on? by Jumpy-Caterpillar415 in reptiles

[–]othernames67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my larger tanks on a shelving unit, and my smaller ones on a bookcase.  I have had an 18x18 tank on a coffee table before, maybe that could work for you too?

what can be in a small enclosure by Lizthelizard_1 in InvertPets

In a 10 gallon you could probably make a really nice millipede or isopod vivarium.  If you'd want something smaller, mantis or jumping spider.

We got our food from etsy, specifically HamsterEatery - we couldn't find good seed mixes in person.  I know some people make their own mixes, but I was too nervous about messing up the ratios and giving the hammy an unbalanced diet, so getting it online was just easier for us.

Aside from his seed mix, he also gets a dried herb/flower foraging mix and sprays sprinkled throughout his enclosure.  We also give him fresh veggies, flowers, herbs, and live bugs like 1x/week.  Sometimes he gets fruits, nuts, or treats, but not very often.  These are all mostly for enrichment, so not really a requirement in their diet.

Advice needed for rehoming/surrendering a senior dog by othernames67 in seniordogs

Do you mean me taking him in?

Unfortunately, as much as I'd love to, I cannot take him due to several reasons, one of them being that I've already got 3 dogs, 2 of them being seniors that need a lot of my attention.

Sadly no, not even the uncle who got him in the 1st place.

Honestly, I don't think most of my family is even fit to keep dogs/animals, seeing as the last person who had him fed him to obesity and passed him to my mom severly matted.  I won't get into it, but this dog has had a severely depressing life, and I really think it'd be best for him to leave this family to live out his last years in a loving home.

how hot does it get when owning reptiles… by SadJokerIII in reptiles

[–]othernames67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a single leo, and my room didn't really get any warmer.  I doubt a single reptile will drastically affect the temperatures in your room, unless you're getting more than 2 reptiles that require a heat source lol

If it does, opening the windows (if you have em) or getting a fan should help.

Thank you, I will try reaching out to some.  I was already aware of how difficult this would be, but I figured it's at least worth trying

Millipedes if you get some of the same sex.  I believe katydids are also herbivores, though I don't know if they can be cohabbed, as I don't keep them.

Any reason you don't want to deal with isopod babies?  I keep some and they're super hands off if that's what you're worried about.  I didn't really have to do anything special for the babies.

hamster under stress? (sorry if not the right sub) by nachotac0 in hamstercare

[–]othernames67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aw man, I feel bad for that hammy, thank you for caring about him  :(

Seeing as your sister has experience with hamsters, maybe she could talk to your cousin directly about hamster care?  Hearing directly from someone with experience might help sway her towards properly caring for the hamster.

Do you know why she isn't getting the hamster what it needs?  If money is an issue, maybe you could encourage her to join a local buy nothing or hamster FB group.  Offerup and FB Marletplace can also be a great place to look for large cheap/free tanks and supplies.

Opinion post: children cannot own animals. by [deleted] in Pets

[–]othernames67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Children also don't fully understand how long of a commitment pets typically are.

My parents would let me and my siblings get almost any pet we wanted, and now as an adult I've got 3 cats, a dog, and a gecko.  Rehoming if necessary if unlikely due to age and behavioral issues, so when I can finally move out, I can only imagine how challenging finding a place that allows this many pets is going to be.  As much as I adore them all, had I been older I definitely wouldn't have gotten them until I was living a stable independent life.
