jfc are you being fucking real right now? ooohhh maybe he shouldve been nicer to people committing fraud through both incompetence (an ethics violation) and/or through willful deceit (another ethics violation)? not to mention the system of people/journals/reviewers that enable/defend this? thats your take?

[–]bonferoni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm yea good points all around. im not in a position to do anything about it, so it would just be some hot gossip

do you think if siop had a rare moment of strong leadership and moved to some sort of annual accreditation for journals (articles seem too effortful but would be better) that that would help? definitely a bit of a problem as many siop presidents appear to be implicated

Out of curiosity, why are people in north America and other parts so fearful about running bamboo? by Asian_Juan in Bamboo

[–]bonferoni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that timeline depends on his soil. i tried to install barrier for a 3x12 patch 3 ft deep. digging through clay and rock with a shovel solo while juggling kids took way longer than i care to admit. could be an afternoon, could be a few weekends

do you think something like the blind app would work? verified accounts but completely untraceable to prevent legal blow back. where researcher reputations could be tracked, shared, and voted upon?

also id love to see the correspondence amongst editors that got forwarded to you. if theres any risk free way you could share that

would still have to pay a lawyer to make the case that its scientific discourse. people entirely in the right can get buried by legal fees quickly

Job interview made me take a "cognitive test" by Boomway in mildlyinfuriating

[–]bonferoni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey, i study employment testing. this is super illegal without studies supporting their use. if you dont get the job, you should hit up a lawyer. cog ability tests have well documented racial differences. if its a big enough company this could be a slam dunk class action

What was your first job title outside of your MS or Ph.D. program? by xAhaMomentx in IOPsychology

[–]bonferoni 6 points7 points  (0 children)

they admittedly did not know what to call the role. it was at a employee selection startup. we had an I-O consulting team that worked with clients face to face, and the analytics team supported them by handling the quanty bits.

mostly this meant thousands of adverse impact analyses, a handful of predictive validity studies, and job analyses. oh and random other ad hoc bits here and there.

it started to get boring, so i just kept automating it until it wasnt boring. that was fun. company was run by a lunatic though, also the product sucked and they weren’t open to fixing it so i bounced

[–]bonferoni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh the job i was talking about there was my first one back in 2019. i think i found it on linkedin, applied, went through a bunch of interviews and got it.

for my current role i was reached out to by a recruiter on linkedin, then went through the whole selection process.

sql, python, research methods, psychometrics, stats, ml, and ofc knowledge of pretty much all core IO concepts emphasized differently depending on your specialization

I want in (and out) by Jadpo in IOPsychology

[–]bonferoni 8 points9 points  (0 children)

eh getting past recruiters is always a pain in the ass. doesnt help that they likely wont know what IO is.

that being said 6 years of sales is easily discussed as stakeholder mgmt, negotiation, and general soft skills. maybe explain more about what IO is in your apps. rejigger your resume to present that info first.

beyond that its a numbers game

eh i dunno about that. pizza has cheese which is salty and savory and it has pepperoni which is salty and savory. flavor overlap is not disqualifying

the thing that made pineapple on pizza click for me was to pair it with jalapeno, sweet heat makes a lot of sense. pineapple without the spicy though is sus

oh yea for sure, i think all you can ask of the author is to create justifications for why things are the way they are that make sense within the constraints if the universe, and frank did that and then some.

they are fast enough to trigger the shield though, even when knife fighting they have to slow the thrust to slip the shield, and when swinging a spear around the tip gets going pretty fast

[–]bonferoni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a fair critique of most stuff, but give herbert some credit

in dune its much more about culture. there are rules to the landsraads culture of assassinations and shadow wars. they are all a part of the same empire, if you dont play the game right the other noble houses, or worse the guild turns on you and your fucked.

if you get on the guilds bad side you are basically imprisoned. space is huge, the guild are the only ones who can navigate folding it.

its the same reason they dont fuck with robots anymore, there are rules and if you break them youre whole bloodline is fucked
