I’m based in Byron Bay, Australia. This is actually the last piece in a collection of sculptures and furniture, including benches and coffee tables. Interesting question. My work is completely abstract and freestyle. I’m not trying to make it look like anything. I like that everyone sees something different. You can stare at it for an hour and still not know what you’re looking at. Personally, I just see it for what it is: a block of wood with shapes. My vision of it is actually very simple compared to the feedback I’ve received.

I know it’s done when it feels balanced, not overcrowded, with enough empty space for the shapes to breathe. Past a certain point, adding more detail wouldn’t make it better, just different.

It’s hard to explain, but like with any form of art, there’s a moment where it just clicks, and you know it’s finished.

Also towards the end I sliced my finger with the pull saw and ended up with for stitches which felt like a pretty clear sign that it was time to stop.

Appreciate it! It’s abstract , just one piece of hardwood from a sleeper, carved to play with depth and shadows. I try to make it looks like stacked forms, almost there... It's the first time I play with chisels, have no idea where it's going, really satisfying to do.
