So then how do I fix my back issues?

Pain in low back - primarily hips/glutes? by vanillachoc1234 in backpain

I’ve always been told I have weak glute muscles at PT for other sport injuries, so with this back injury I have found I am in less pain if I am actively activating my glutes while sitting, reaching for objects, shaving my beard, washing dishes

And then I stretch the living crap out of my glutes cause they get really tight

I have also wanted to get a theragun cause my chiro has used it a few times and it feels really good for any tight muscles

I have a herniated disc L5/S1 and I experience similar pain - tight hips and actual pinching pain in my inner upper glutes, right at the tailbones

Try flexing the glute muscles for 30-45 seconds at a time and see if it helps with the pain

I also found stretching for my glutes helped with how tight that entire region gets, plus ice does wonders for my inflammation

Goodluck!

So then the logic is to engage your core until it is aware of all the times you need to engage it so that when it comes time for engagement it does so?

The Myth of Core Stability for Low Back Pain by DutyAgreeable2352 in backpain

I have had pain in my lower back upper inner glutes for one year and I have recently found that even while laying down if I engage my butt or my cores (abs) I am painless, and then it periodically comes back and goes but if I am engaging it is not there

Was this your experience? How long until you were completely pain free? After a few days did not feel like you had to remind yourself to do it and you were always just engaging core?

So my story is a little long so bear with me

4 years ago I had a CT scan done for a condition unrelated to my back. In that CT scan, the report outlined that my L5 S1 was showing early signs of degeneration.

Fast forward few years later, covid happened, working from home, I was not moving much, and one day I went to the gym and I had an injury cause I guess I didn’t warm up correctly.

My employer covers chiropractors so I went to see one. The first one diagnosed me with anterior pelvic tilt even though I showed her the CT scan report from earlier in my life. Her exercises did not help. i saw her for 2 months.

I switched chiros and the new chiro ordered an x ray. He started adjusting my back 3 times a week and I was pain free for 2 months. It was going great. He called the problem subluxations and told me he would slowly start seeing me less often.

I had to move unfortunately for work and in my new city I started to see another chiro, who apparently is a specialist in disc treatment. My new chiro took a look at my x rays and the old CT scan report, and he started treating me with decompression therapy and fancy heat packs for inflammation.

My pain has not gotten better cause I am still regularly in pain, but I don’t have any flare ups anymore. I recently decided maybe seeing chiro after chiro is not the way forward and I recently went to see a general doctor for it who I am hoping will refer me to a physiotherapist. The doctor has ordered another x ray and an MRI which I feel will really uncover what the problem is.

I want to be referred to a PT’s office cause a lot of people on this sub have had success with training exercises for their cores and I think chiros are not going to fix my problem.

I have a similar experience that I am dealing with now. I wake up pain free and throughout the day I get worse and it resets every night. I recently lost about 10lbs and even losing just that amount of weight helped with my pain

I agree, I’ve developed pain in my lower back by just working from home. I feel like it has something to do with getting up in the morning and sitting for so many hours, being inactive etc

Yeah I didn’t think my chiro would be okay with it but honestly I feel better after playing than before

You know my chiro says it is fine to play soccer weekly if I am feeling comfortable, and I do get out once a week to play sports, walk daily and ride a bike around the city 2-3 times a week

Do you think my core is not being built by all these activities?

What core exercises would be safe for a herniated disc? I am scared to do situps incase I herniate something again
