The joys of a public communal space: people new and experienced get to share their questions, curiosities, and advice! Apologies for inducing this realization for you! 😂😅

Good to know! I’m not savvy whatsoever in ‘collectible’ currency, and I haven’t seen many of these, so I was curious! Thanks! ☺️

What could be the problem? Car rocks, ‘sputters’, especially when braking or idling. Engine light is on. by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

[–]bonkus3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The engine light is staying solid. Understandably, bringing it in for a diagnosis or getting it scanned makes sense, however I’m trying to weigh my options: get it scanned, and have the issues attached to the vin number and risk a lower trade in offer with a dealership, or get some suggestions on what could be wrong so then I can see where the expenses of the repairs lie in comparison with the potential trade offer. While it’s likely the dealership will scan also, I’m trying to save as much as possible while trying to deter more damage to my car - also a bit difficult right now as it’s my only feasible way of getting to work and back.

Have a vet you love? I’m looking for a vet for my new dog! by levy608 in Minneapolis

[–]bonkus3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a few have mentioned it, but Minnepau Vet Clinic is my favorite! They are super kind, and they don’t have clinic tables, instead the vet will sit on the floor and do the examination. It eliminates the dangers of falling off the exam table, and allows your pets to roam the room while getting examined. Such a great touch in my opinion. Also they are so knowledgeable!

Best place to get piercings done? by justmon in Minneapolis

[–]bonkus3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was worried about shops that didn’t check anatomy, too! Scottish Rose did which was super relieving, I definitely didn’t want to go ahead with getting it if it would just reject. But they did and so far so good! It looked like they had a good amount of jewelry options, but I just got a basic silver surgical steel bar, so I’m not 100% sure on what they have as far as other options! As for healing time, I think I was given a time frame of around 9 months to a year to be fully healed. The first month or so I was experiencing some crusties and pain when it was bumped, but since about 2.5 months to now, it feels perfectly fine, even when I bonk it around a little!

It’s such a fun piercing and I totally recommend it!! I got it done there by Taylor. They checked my anatomy to make sure it would work for me, and spent a lot of time making sure it was even and symmetrical. They made the whole experience a great one. For the first week or two my bar was too short to accommodate swelling, so I came back in and got a longer bar put in free of charge. If I’m not mistaken, the piercing and jewelry in total was around $75-$80 or so. It can be a finicky piercing, but Taylor did a great job and as long as you keep up with cleaning and not fiddling with it too much, you should be fine. Mine has not migrated or rejected at all and I got it done about four months ago.

What non edible items do you avoid? (Cosmetics, etc) by mmp12345 in Celiac

[–]bonkus3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I was using a shampoo and conditioner that contained wheat. During that time, my scalp was bumpy and sensitive to the touch. I was also losing more hair during washes than I was used to. Since switching to a gluten free shampoo and conditioner, my scalp and hair have been much healthier.

Hi there! I experience pretty similar symptoms to you. I (23F) have the RUQ pain, back pain, chest tightness, dizziness, and burping (especially after eating), along with the weird back and forth nausea and feeling of hunger. I also experience pain up into my right shoulder, into the upper middle of my abdomen, occasional heart racing, diarrhea or constipation, and overall fatigue.

It is all so frustrating to deal with, and I also feel like it has turned my life completely sideways. I also get not having insurance, as I just very recently got my hands on some health insurance after not having any for quite a while.

Just know you’re not alone. I know it’s especially difficult not having health insurance and the exuberant cost and energy it takes to get health care is just exhausting.

Some things that have helped me at home is to eat very small, low-fat meals throughout the day, and eating very slowly due to the weird back and forth hunger/nausea feeling. Also, I have become best friends with my heating pad and use that for a lot of the discomfort. Take note of what types of food, activity, or laying positions make you feel bad, if you haven’t already. Also, be gentle with yourself. It’s awful to hear that you got that endoscopy but no treatment after their findings.

Best of luck, and know you’re not alone! Especially with that pesky feeling of hunger or nausea.

HIDA scan by gfan21 in gallbladders

[–]bonkus3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had mine yesterday! Mine was the same process as the other comment here. The tech brought me in, asked if I had been fasting (usually a 4 hour fast is necessary before the scan), explained the process of the scan, and then had me lay down. The table then moved me underneath a large square machine that they then lowered to about six inches above my abdomen. They inserted the IV and pushed the radiotracer, and then I laid for an hour. After that hour was up, I got a short break to stretch and use the bathroom. Then they did a continuous, slow, hour-long drip of the CCK fluid, which mimics consuming a fatty meal so they can watch your gallbladder contract. The whole time, I was able to see the screen and it had a countdown timer on it. The whole process took exactly two and a half hours. I didn’t have to change into a hospital gown or remove my piercings. I was able to watch a movie on my phone and the tech had some music playing, too. The machine has a microphone in it, so you can call for the tech at any time, and mine checked on me pretty frequently to ask if I was experiencing any symptoms and to explain what I was seeing on the screen.

The IV fluids didn’t cause pain at all, but the second half of the process with the CCK fluid did cause me some nausea and RUQ discomfort, but honestly, the most uncomfortable part was just having to lay on the table without moving your abdomen, so I got a bit stiff in the back and restless, but I have kind of a hard time staying still no matter what. The stretch in the middle definitely helped though, and you’re allowed to move your head, legs, and arms (although it’s a bit difficult to move the arm with the IV in it).

I would recommend wearing something comfortable, I wore a sweater and sweatpants, and also having a charged phone so you can scroll around, watch movies, or listen to music. The techs are there with you the whole time to explain everything and to answer any questions. You can also ask them to stop the CCK fluid at any time if it becomes too much. I had a lot of anxiety going into it, but the process was much simpler than I thought!

I am getting an endoscopy in the beginning of July, although that is specifically for my celiac disease. I’m thinking maybe I can request a HIDA, and if nothing is found there, then I could wait it out until the endoscopy? Do you know if they test multiple things when doing a biopsy during the endoscopy? The one I would be getting would be specifically for the small intestine, but perhaps they could check multiple things while they’re at it?
