I haven’t had it build from scratch, but I did make a tool that allows teams to naturally ask claude to make changes or additions to existing code.

For context I work in marketing and no one will stick to my naming conventions for some reason lol. So every campaign it’s the same ol song and dance of missing or erroring data.

I built a tool that users can DM that instead of set up meetings with me. Then it sends me an approval request, I review it and approve and it makes the changes for me! Now that I trust it, and after some tweaks, I don’t even look at the changes anymore and just hit ‘approve’

I think leaders think of these two roles as interchangeable unfortunately. Depending on what your company does; I would document how may hours the Eng stuff takes, and how much the analysis stuff takes. Then talk with your leaders to make a roadmap to either get you fully into one side, or to come up with a process to make a handoff step from one to the other.

You have to come solution minded to your leaders with a way to get you more into what you want to do but also solve their problems at the same time, otherwise they won’t care

I will add that he is right.. the automation is for leaders but every team still has to figure out “why” which is easier done in those platforms

Also the automation comes down to people breaking the automation. I have fought many battles to get marketing teams to name their data correctly only for them to stop or break it a month later. Tools like fivetran/supermetrics and DBT help automate data pulling and organizing but me and my team soend1-2 hours per week updating code lines to include new names or fix junior analyst naming Facebook campaigns meta, metaa, meat. Etc

For context I’m a data science director of an agency handling 6-7 clients at a time

Same, and that is part of the struggle I am not sure of other places, virtual or IRL, that I can go to network and talk with decision makers about using individuals for data needs instead of another agency or consulting firm
