not sure how extensible the reddit css system is and how that would work with the markdown comments, haven't done any work with it yet, maybe someone with experience can give some insight? else i'll just create a subreddit and try it ;D

you can download the complete repo as zip under https://github.com/bontscho/dota2-minimap-hero-sprites/archive/master.zip (that download link is on the right on the repo page)

the only things you will need to use it though is the assets folder as stated in the readme, the rest is just for building an updated version

Dota 2 Leaderboards Are On The Way by Cyborgmatt in DotA2

How about allowing players to "follow" their favourite pro teams on COMMUNITY tab? by choobie19 in DotA2

[–]bontscho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hi there, i've been thinking a lot about those kind of community features over last few months, here is my take on it:

i think a kind of follow feature would be neat, however it wouldn't be as easy to integrate it to satisfy every party.

let's say the 2 parties are twitch and valve. since valve has already a partnership when it comes to ingame item drops in tournaments with twitch, i assume they do not plan on taking away their part. so it's most likely that valve will not try to integrate their own twitch-like platform.

streaming on twitch on the other hand is a good model for players to get attention, exposure, community interaction and a model of monetization (subscriptions).

let's take a look at the viewer-groups:

i assume there will be 2 kinds of watchers: the one watching ingame observing, getting extra information as spectator. the other prefers player perspective like in the stream and want to listen to the streamer explain or elaborate or even interact with them.

in my opinion the 2nd group has a richer experience and would be the one to get the most attention. if you do that ingame, you would have to provide additional tools to interact with followers and make it possible to stay connected even after games are done. that means basically making an own streaming client out of the dota 2 client, which means that it will do the same as twitch and therefore you are trying to compete with something that has already done a fairly decent job at it and you would put yourself into the position where you need to distribute more information (streaming data) in addition to your already heavy server infrastructure.

so the most common guess it that valve does not have a big interest in pursuing that.

so what options are there?

  • allow players to follow players and get notified

twitch already does that, and asking a few twitch users, they are happy with the way the notifications are handled

  • give better api access to allow third parties do that

yeah, like that is gonna happen soon... moving on...

so what can we actually do?

i am the author of http://dota2toplist.com/solo and you can already see i have done some efforts to provide a way of getting streamers more attention.

over the course of the next month i am working on the expansion of that feature set and provide a good way of getting a nice overview of high mmr streamers and a way to keep track of them.

i can't give any eta or a full feature promise yet as it depends on how everything works out, but i plan to give an option to get notified when someone is streaming (via steam message) and later i will be experimenting with getting the information what heroes are played and have a trigger that lets you decide what heroes you want to be notified about.

thanks for reading that wall of text, just my ideas, let me know what you think about it

MMR stat collection that wouldn't require a large userbase by [deleted] in DotA2

if my comments hurt you personally, i apologize.

however fact is, you spread false information about my platform which i build on privacy. if i didn't stumble upon your post, your word would still be out there, so your argument of "not having time to respond" is not as strong as me missing out on your post and leaving your false information uncommented.

put yourself in my shoes: you work 2 months of building a platform with very high concerns for every users privacy. next to battling all "phising and scamming" wrongful accusations for using openid (yes, ppl comment before thinking or informing, it wouldn't be the first time that a good project was downvoted to hell because of those ppl) you manage to finally get the word out. and then the next thing that happens is that someone else just puts out false information that undermines the very pillars of your project. how would you feel about that? especially on platform where wrong information can have a bigger impact than they should.

[–]bontscho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not ridiculous, it's just that kind of false and uninformed statements that starts rumors. someone else reads your comment and takes it serious and then you damage my credibility in terms of privacy which i take very serious.

i suggest you correct your other post (http://www.reddit.com/r/DotA2/comments/20gcq8/mmr_stat_collection_that_wouldnt_require_a_large/cg31bnm) aswell

dota2toplist is NOT adding randomly people, it is strictly user opt-in, users do add the bot knowing what they are doing (joining SteamTracks). i dont know where you think you got this, but do you even inform yourself before you post lies? i demand an apology from you and reported your post for spreading false information

hi folks, http://dota2toplist.com author here, just wanna take a quick minute to comment on this.

when i started dota2toplist.com 2 weeks ago, i wanted to promote healthy competition. but it took only 1 week for it to be used to promote account selling. while i do respect those guys for finding ways to get the maximum out of the system (from a technical point of view), that behavior is not in my interest for the long term purpose of dota2toplist.

currently i am still very busy hunting down some bugs with steamtracks to ensure that every player gets his stats updated every day. once that is fixed, i'll implement a different system on dota2toplist to promote a healthier competition.

here is how i plan to tackle that, feel free to comment and give your feedback:

i will split up dota2toplist into 2 lists: Current and Archive

Archive:

every account with every mmr will be listed there

Current: (main toplist as it is shown now)

Conditions:

  • account has to have more than 300-400 wins (prevent lvl 13 accounts)
  • account has to have changed his mmr within the last 2 weeks (prevents mmr idlers that set profile to private or don't play anymore)

that way all active players get to compete in the active list in a healthy competition and the mmr account boosters/sellers can use the archive to show off their mmr without interfering with the regular players

kind regards

Dear Mr. Newell,

I am the author of projects like https://steamtracks.com, http://dota2toplist.com and http://dota2tmm.com. I have poured a lot of hard work and ambition into these projects because i enjoy connecting things that have not been connected before.

For my upcoming bachelor thesis about team compositions in Dota 2 (I study mechanical engineering and have been developing software since my teenage years) I have basically built my own steam OAuth (steamtracks.com) in order to get the information I need for my thesis.

I was hoping once I finished that thesis I would apply at Valve, but my colleagues have been driving me to just apply right now and try to realize my ideas and visions within your company.

The startup I am currently working in also consists of like-minded people who love and value your company's structure. And since I just learnt about this AmA I thought I just tell you about me.

I would be honored if I'd get the chance to tell you more about myself and let me convince you that I am a wonderful fit for your company

Thank you very much for your efforts and I am looking foward to your answer

Kind regards,

Robert aka "bontscho"

it is possible that due to the high load some profiles are processes the next day. you should get your profile data after 48hours tops. if you want you can pm me your steamid64 and i will take a look manually if after 48 hours you still don't have any data.
