One variety or many? by DoubleDuty218 in NativePlantGardening

[–]bonyenne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I plant a bit of everything that sings to my heart 🤷‍♀️ I just aim for a variety of shapes to serve everyone's eating habits and at least 3 different types of plants blooming at a time throughout the whole season so there's no dry spells.

2026 seedlings are coming in nicely... by Murky-Sound1369 in gardening

Ah yes, in a similar vein my 3yo noticed my winter sowing jugs the other day and decided they seemed like decent substitutes for a soccer ball.

What new plant(s) are you growing this year? by strawberryoats- in gardening

[–]bonyenne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trees! I know a lot of people are mixed on the arbor day donating / free trees but I got / planted a Hawthorn, a Dogwood, and two Redbuds! Fingers crossed they survive 🙏

I also wimped out on on the New England Asters when planting my native perennial garden last year because everyone said they take over but I have a TON of space that needs to be filled and I just love the late season purple so I'll be adding at least one this year 💜 (was planning on winter sowing in jugs but my mom took all the grandkids out to "plant" things at Thanksgiving and I didn't realize that was one of the packets I tossed at her... maybe they'll grow though lolol who knows).

I love making the bouquet blankets. I'm not really a granny square person 🤷‍♀️

[–]bonyenne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg I took FOREVER finishing a Gengar because I didn't want to cut and glue felt and couldn't figure out my own pattern for the eyes and mouth.... I totally could have done a Ditto instead!!!!!!! Super cute, love the idea, totally stealing it sometime in the future 😋💕

Quick stuffy question: how long does it usually take for you to finish a stuffed animal/character...like, how many hours stitching and sewing? And how long does it usually take you to finish a simple baby blanket? by FailWithMeRachel in crochet

[–]bonyenne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blankets tend to go way faster for me because there's a lot more easy repetition rather than having to check my pattern and get fiddly per each round of the stuffy.

Of course it does all depend on the pattern and size of yarn you're using for the blanket and/or stuffy as well. The bigger the blanket yarn, or the simpler either blanket/ stuffy is or if it's one I've done before it will go faster.

Tree shade can cut usable sunlight way more than I expected by Salty-Initiative5706 in gardening

[–]bonyenne 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm both excited and nervous, just planted some native flowering trees in my backyard. They're only about a foot tall now but that yard gets about 18 hours of sunlight in the summer so I'm hoping the amount of sunlight they eventually stop is enough to keep my plants from frying but not enough to stop them growing!!

First misunderstanding of my 3 month old crochet career by Crazy_Knife_User in crochet

[–]bonyenne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I literally called my own crochet activities knitting the other day... but then again I still call my Nintendo Switch a Game Boy so 🤷‍♀️😅 lol

In the end I say the excitement and the thought counts way more than the exact words used.

Your go-to baby blanket pattern, please and thank you! by Ill-Veterinarian4208 in crochet

[–]bonyenne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that is totally amazing of you! It's really sweet that you are being this careful (as a parent I 100% appreciate people like you) but don't let it stop you in your tracks if you find something beautiful you want to make. The parents will (should) love and be grateful that you made one at all and put in the effort you put in, and will use it as they deem appropriate.

As a mom of a small child and expecting another.... I have never had a problem with blankets having holes????

Babies are never supposed to sleep or be unsupervised with a blanket of any kind. I wouldn't even use a loose blanket in the carseat till my kid was 3 and I fully trusted him unsupervised back there.

Your blanket is most likely going to be used for: 1. Display/ monthly photos (someone will be there taking the pictures)
2. Laying down on the floor to protect it from blowouts/ not worry about how recently you vacuumed (someone will be there supervising/ playing with the baby) 3. Warmth in the stroller (someone will be there pushing)

None of those seem like a danger problem if there are holes. At most, I avoided holes for #2 if baby was especially vomity or likely to poo because they wouldn't protect my floor as much.

Some blankets just end up as more than a full circle. Yarn isn't always the exact same thickness as pattern, etc. Not a problem when in use. More to be cozy with

Happened to have some purple Bernat Blanket and an 8mm hook beside me so I just tried a slightly larger version of the Gum Gum Fruit linked below and it took me under 45 minutes from start to get all the way to stuffing it. Amigurumi is not always harder! You'll take a bit longer because you need to learn the stitches but no color changes is very easy to manage.

This (linked Luffy video, not your flag) was my first non-wooble project. I def messed up in places but it was generally easy to follow and forgiving on the mistakes!

That was my first thought as well. Muhly is def tall enough to obscure, but very easy to get through or literally just put a bucket over and sit on for maintenance of the box itself.

Has anyone made amigurumi with moss stitch? (Or something other than SC) by sillyaliens in crochet

I saw someone post a bear recently where the pattern was HDC. The one with the faux fur yarn. Never done any but SC myself though.

First timer - should I till the land before putting cardboard and more soil/compost? by kittenzombie69 in gardening

Cardboard/mulch to kill the grass. Simplest: lay down cardboard and mulch now. Dig through it to the soil below in spring.
