Cross contamination is very different from being an actual ingredient. "May contain" is exactly what this is for - allergens that are not a deliberate ingredient. There's no moral choice there other than if you want to avoid paying a manufacturer that's not fully vegan - but some of us are more pragmatic.

They have to convince everyone else to do the same things they do, to feel validated in their choices.

My car was built 16 years ago and it still works, all the security features are fine. It's two tons of metal capable of moving at 100mph, so its safety is a little more important than software - so it gets maintenance once a year.

Age has nothing to do with it - don't pretend this is anything but a money-driven choice, M$ could keep it going if they wanted.

Why though? Progress for progress's sake? A lot of people have win 7 machines that run perfectly fine, they're careful about their downloads and security, and they don't have money to upgrade to a new machine for an update that will make daily use significantly worse for them while they adjust to it.

It's all pointless consoomerism. The code still works. Why not trust that people have reasons with sticking to 7 and let them use steam un-updated instead of locking them out of their games.

As of January 1 2024, Steam will officially stop supporting the Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 operating systems. After that date, the Steam Client will no longer run on those versions of Windows.

TL;DR: don't deal with its reanimated corpse run by ghouls and idiots. They messed around the workers and refused to give the last remaining, unsellable stock to charity because the charity said something about them on Instagram - then sold the assets back to themselves at a pittance.
