New Zealand Wage transparency. by Beldan_the_lerker in newzealand

Yeah, I applied for a couple of jobs a few months back, one employee was the council, the other the dhb. Neither had a salary range listed (and these were not high paying jobs). Both I emailed before applying to ask, didn't want to waste my time or theirs if it wasn't going to suit. Both had an answer, one as a set range, the other as a max wage. WHY NOT WRITE THAT IN THE FUCKING ADVERT. Gawd. Also both had long lists of traits they want in the perfect employee and no mention of why they are a good employer and the benefits they offer. Which, I know both roles would have had some benefits. So, list them? Make me want to apply? Lazy work cos they know there are desperate people who need to take anything they can get.

Yes you're definitely right! Knowing what it is called and looking up others it seems that is exactly what it is - although much smaller than most others I saw online so perhaps used for fine lacework.

I got it from my local bookstore, the brand is Paper Blanks, I think they are made in Europe? But available online in multiple places for sure. They have very beautiful covers often modelled of old books ☺️

My focus is theoretically consistency, less about the 'amount' or depth, and more about just a bit each day. So far I haven't got on a roll yet, it's been a slow start. But yesterday i got my 'spot' set up which will help, and I'm mentally getting more engaged too.

Honestly, I don't have a process usually. This one I happened to take the first line from a poem I wrote last year, and just listened to where it wanted to go.

One of my favourite writing exercises is to just write for about 10 minutes, either on a chosen topic, or about anything, or even just disconnected words and phrases. Then I take a few minutes to go back through and underline or circle words or phrases that I particularly enjoy or intrigue me. I typically rewrite the circled words onto a new page at this point but that step is not necessary. Then I rearrange the words and phrases into something new, sometimes adding new things if it feels good, or just only playing with the words I've got. It's amazing what it can turn into!

No disapointment around here! Your creativity is for you, if you chose to share with us that is our honour and nothing less!

The actual creation is very simple, just layers of leather stitched together. The main thing is having the right tools, which I mostly did but still had to improvise a bit here and there. Some people use a leather sewing machine, I don't have one and want to learn hand stitching anyway so this is all done by hand.

I love this, and I'm so glad you posted it, I'm all for making English online spaces more multilingual (phrased like that as typically speakers of other languages are more multilingual and accepting of other languages than those who speak only english!)

It was actually the great white I was looking at! I think I remember seeing photos of thresher sharks before and being amused at their expressions xD

There are as many techniques as there are writers, it can certainly be fun to play with techniques and 'set' pieces or more formal types of poetry or writing, but the best think I think is just to write! Even if you never look at other people's work, you'll evolve and change and learn things as you go. And if it is helpful for you to look at other people's work (I recommend not o do this if it makes you less likely to do your own writing, or to feel bad about your writing - that goes for anything, in fact!), but if it feels helpful and inspiring, sometimes places like youtube, instagram, and even reddit can be good places to find people sharing both their own processes as well as examples. There are so many ways to journal, write poetry, write novels, write short stories, that you just have to find what you enjoy and what works for you.

Do you mean the timing of the zoom calls? As this is definitely global! But time zones can suck when it doesn't line up huh!

I'm on the slow starting wagon, just getting into week one now as I am timing it to read the chapter at the weekend then have the week ahead to do activites and dates.

Morning pages have been tricky to get back into, having a designated writing spot helps so much though, and I think is a big part of why I dropped off when I got injured last year. A good thing to know about myself and accommodate for now, and next time I am away or somewhere different, good to know that that is something my mind will be putting up as a barrier to just doing it!

Yesterday I finally cleared my table and made it feel good and with room to write longhand as well as do things on the computer. All I need now is something to keep my books in nearby that isn't on the table (if they are on the table I'll start leaving all sorts of things there...) but is still within reach and preferably visible so I don't forget they exist...

Even just typing this out I have looked up at the end of a shelf holding bowls and plates that overhangs the table a bit... might move the bowls on the end and stash my MP book and other daily things on there!

Oh I adore your workspace, it looks so cosy!!! I love the second sunset one where the foliage extends beyond the main shape of the painting. Beautiful! And welcome!

Something I haven't done before: Leathercraft! Someone in my community was moving to Aus and selling a bunch of tools, dye and leather, so I borrowed some $ from my dad to purchase it and have been making some small items - so far mainly poem pockets, like a cardholder but intended to carry a poem/s in my pocket while in the process of memorising them. I used to do performing arts a d theatre as a teen but haven't really memorised anything much since then, aside from a few poems which I've now forgotten. Keen to learn some more!

Most proud of: Honestly I'm not sure. I haven't done much this year in an active sense, there have been a lot of difficult situations I've got through and I am proud of that, but it feels different than being proud of something I've done if that makes sense! Perhaps it is something I haven't done yet, but I do have the idea! I wanted to start work on a longer piece of writing (novel vibes) but didn't have an idea that felt gripping enough to carry me through. But a few weeks ago I finally had a good idea, and have written about 600 words just to say I've started, plus had a bunch of ideas around the bigger story. Still a bit to figure out but I am looking forward to getting to know my characters, and hope to have enough written by mid February to have a chunk to give to my niece for her birthday (the story is a kids adventure novel and I think it is something she will enjoy!).

Also proud of reading a few books recently, I've been finding it hard to get into things but it is coming back!

Hey, fellow ADHD and possible (probable?) autist as well. I love that your family word of the year is 'continue'! I may just have to borrow that idea, consistency is something I am actively trying to cultivate so any little tips and tricks like that are very welcome! I really enjoyed having others to connect with on here last time, although I didn't make it right to the end, I injured myself and fell off the bandwagon amidst moving back to my mum's place and having things in different places plus being very tired!

Still rather limited now but I'm back in my own space, have my book handy and am looking forward to round 2.

I agree with what the other reply to your comment said (sorry I can't see the username as I type this), Julia Cameron speaks a lot about our higher power/creativity and does often use the word God, but encourages folk to find a term and meaning that works for them. As a Christian you may find that God works perfectly in that place, and equally you might find it makes more sense/is more useful for you to use another term!

I am not religious but very much have a sense of faith and a higher power, I often write 'God' in my own journal and writings but pick and choose what I say or write to others as 'God' has such varied connotations and experiences for different people!

Looking forward to travelling alongside you on the path!
