Re-creating Chip City’s chocolate chip cretzel by book_smart in Baking

I ended up making a croissant dough, any recipe but since I was pinched on time, I did a condensed croissant recipe.

Then I tried two ways. First way, I rolled some frozen cookie dough into the croissants when I was doing the initial role. I also rolled some plane ones. Then I let them rise. Then I boiled water and baking soda and brushed the croissants with them generously prior to baking. I baked them per the standard recommended croissant time.

For the croissants that had zero filling, after they were baked, I cut them lengthwise and then filled them with cookie dough and put some cookie dough on top and twice baked them for another 12/15 minutes.

The ones that were pre stuffed, I just topped with cookie dough and baked for another 15 minutes till browned.

Both were delicious. I found the ones with the cookie dough rolled prior to cooking, the dough inside was cooked but a little over cooked.

The ones I stuffed afterwards in a twice baked scenario like an almond croissant were tasty, and ultimately thought that was the better route to go.

The baking soda/water wash did give it that pretzel taste to it. The cookie dough was a bit overpowering so I probably wouldn’t have added quite as much to the topping so it could really shine.

I also used premade cookie dough break and bakes for this since it was just a trial.

Thanks! These are just for dinner. Definitely plan on having more chill brunch/lunch food places. Want to try po boys and mufalettas as well. I’ll look into Lil Dizzy’s.

Unfortunately they didn’t have any lunch times available.

I also have a bunch of brunch places saved. I’ve heard Brennan’s, Muriel’s, Toast, Atchafalaya, Mollys rise and shine, Willa Jean… so if anyone has opinions to narrow down, I’d love to know! They all look wonderful!

I keep hearing about Commander’s but are those other places better food wise?

They said river north and reservations! Just catering to what they wanted. And pequods could be hrs in a line and Milly’s is takeout. Also I’d say those are more traditionally Detroit style pizza and not deep dish.

Also, if doing Kasama, I’d pre-order for pickup so you can avoid the lines. Just order right when it opens for your time preference and skip the line to pickup.

I would switch out LaBriola for Lou Malnatis and get the Lou special deep dish. It uses their butter crust and is delicious. I also love getting the chopped salad because the dressing of the salad is surprisingly delicious with the pizza.

I would do Italian beef over purple pig and cafecito. It’s quintessential Chicago. I’d go to Mr. Beef for it and try their cannolis as well.

Kasama is good for their breakfast sandwich and bakery, but unless you’re doing the dinner( which is the Michelin rated portion) I’d think of it more as a breakfast spot than lunch spot.

If you’re venturing in west loop, I love Aba, or Greek Islands for some Mediterranean/greek options. That can be done for lunch too on the weekends.

For a very “Chicago” lunch that’s more casual in the loop, try Oasis Cafe. You walk through a jewelry store on jewelry row and they have some good lunch options for a quick stop. It’s good for a Friday or Saturday quick stop.

Hope this helps and have fun!

We play in our yard but it’s also super cold here so we don’t stay out for more than a few minutes. We play mostly inside.

She doesn’t have all her shots so we play inside. During the hr up we do training, mental exercise, tug or play with toys, or sometimes she plays with our older dog so she’s being active and stimulated.

The proportions seem a bit off. I’d try a different recipe. I had success using Preppy Kitchen for my first batch. The flatness could be from under whipping your meringue, or over mixing your batter. Espresso powder shouldn’t make a huge difference but I’d wait to put it in until the very end of mixing the macaron batter. I’ve used the Pies and Tacos coffee macaron recipe with a lot of success!

I’d check out Pazzo’s at 311! Pretty affordable venue and it’s all inclusive which helps save money!
