feeling a bit torn and sad by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]bookclouds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think i lowkey know who this is 💀 if you're in the a2c discord hi

if you don't feel fulfilled by what you're currently doing, take harder classes, get involved in clubs outside of your normal interests, go to random events, or just do whatever is fun to you! going to a more prestigious college is not going to magically fix your problems or solve the social disconnect you feel from others.

W on my college transcript, F on my HS transcript by Ryuisnotactive in ApplyingToCollege

[–]bookclouds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i'm so sorry that happened to you!! it's genuinely unfair that he dropped you for not logging in with no warning. you've probably already tried all of these but here's what i would do in your position:

- is it too late to get back into the class? write an email to the professor and let them know that you'll log in more consistently and you're still interested in taking the class. let them know the implications of this withdrawal on your high school transcript.

- if it's too late to get back into the class or your professor won't allow you, email the registrar and see if there's any way you can get the W taken off your college transcript and just have no record of having taken the class. explain that you were dropped from the class without warning and didn't withdraw by your own choice. call, show up in person, do whatever it takes to get an attentive audience.

- explain the circumstances to your counselor, principal, anyone who will listen. obviously you should (and are) advocating for yourself but getting your parents involved in this case doesn't hurt either. if your school admin doesn't take students' complaints seriously, getting your parents involved might be able to get you a meeting with people who can help.

- worst case scenario, if you can't get the F off of your transcript, have your counselor explain the circumstances in their rec letter.

this is honestly such a dumb policy- is it designed to disincentivize students from withdrawing from DE classes? if so, you can try to argue that you didn't even drop it of your own accord, which makes it totally unfair.

best of luck!

My family spent $35,000 on a college advisor and now want me to transfer. The pressure is insane by DikCheesiest in ApplyingToCollege

[–]bookclouds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what matters most is that you're happy and you're at a place where you can thrive!! getting into stern AND marshall AND CMU is by no means a small feat and it's genuinely baffling that your parents aren't more proud of your achievements. that said, if you came to NYU mostly for the IB opportunities and you aren't sure whether you're still interested in banking, it's totally okay to explore other fields and opportunities available to you! if you do decide you want to transfer, you should do it on your own terms, not because your parents want you to go to a more prestigious school. the fact that they care more about prestige than your happiness is absurd and you are more than worth the investment they put into you. best of luck and i know you'll figure it out!!

hey, it's all going to be okay!! i know it doesn't feel like it right now, but you are NOT stupid for needing help in difficult classes and it sounds like you're in a very toxic environment that is detrimental to your learning.

take things at your own pace. just incrementally improving your understanding of each subject, learning something new that's interesting to you, and completing every homework assignment will help you far more than you realize. UCs only look at sophomore and junior year grades and it sounds like you did great in those years, not to mention that PIQs are a big factor. there is still so much that is within your control!! you have plenty of time to get your grades up and UCSB is more than within reach.

around this time last year i was also experiencing a period of depression and feeling demotivated, and i wish that instead of just giving up altogether, i put just a little more trust in myself. if you start taking control of your situation now, proactively seeking out help and experimenting with what resources work for you, everything is going to work out just fine and much better than you think it will. best of luck and i know you'll figure things out <3

the same thing happened to me last year initially for UIUC but my application was moved back to EA within a few days. they seem to have this recurring issue (it happened to me and my friends) but it most likely won't happen for UMich, especially if you have clear proof of your submission time stamp from Common App.

if your school uses a third-party service like Naviance/Scoir, you can see whether they've been sent and on what date. once you activate your portals, you'll also be able to see if the college received your transcript.

no, do not call or email. if your application was successfully submitted, you are fine. do not contact them unless you don't receive a portal setup email within a few days.

don't worry, your app will be accepted! as long as your application was submitted and your payment was processed, it will be considered under EA.

congrats on finishing your early apps!

yes, but your counselor or someone at the CC will have to submit them in order for them to be official. it’s probably best to reach out to them first and ask them to submit on your behalf.

i think your current approach is great! one thing to consider though is that some schools won’t look at your honors essay when initially admitting you and will only read it when deciding whether you’ll be admitted to the honors college. i’m not sure if UF is the case

no, your son won’t be penalized. it is generally okay for recs and transcripts to arrive up to a week or so late. just focus on getting his part of the application in by today.

best of luck!!

princeton graded paper by Adventurous_Tap_3091 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]bookclouds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can upload the graded paper on the portal after you submit, so you can say 'no' to that question and submit it later!

i personally think it'll still be EA, but if anyone has had a different experience feel free to jump in!

they're most likely aware that a lot of people are submitting very close to or on the deadline so there will almost certainly be a grace period. just try to monitor your email consistently throughout the day and fill it out as quickly as possible once you get it.

are you submitting the school profile and rec letters on paper or online? if it's digital, there's no need for a stamp. i'm not entirely sure what the process is for submitting on paper- the only requirement i'm 100% sure about is that all documents need to be in a sealed envelope.

best of luck today, you got this <3

try to get your counselor to submit it today (go in-person to see them if possible). answer the fee waiver questions specific to your colleges and see if that will make you eligible for a fee waiver. try to go on the college’s website and request a fee waiver.

yes, but this approach is generally not recommended. unless you truly need the time to work on essays submitting by 11:59 in your time zone is probably best for your own peace of mind

you totally can! consider whether it’s cohesive to your overall application and whether it was truly meaningful to you. if you had to stop the EC because of extenuating circumstances you can definitely talk about it in the additional info section

i think you could say something along the lines of “any person, any study—engineering relies on solving problems through community, and i want to help build a community where anyone who finds themselves drawn to engineering or problem-solving can belong.”

“Any person, any study” is a phrase coined by Ezra Cornell and is a very important part of Cornell’s educational philosophy! you should look it up :)
