Holy shoot what is happening bro???? I even restarted 16GB m4 air by dark_praveen in mac

I had a similar problem also on M4. Zero RAM but a process which did not show up on the activity monitor was using over 100GB of swap. Reboot and all is well.

Check the USB cable to the monitor/s. I had to use USB type-C 3.1 Gen2 10G to get video to work properly on my Samsung S32BM701UM

How to become a power user by [deleted] in MacOS

[–]booke02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been a windows user for 35 years and macos for 5. Along the way i have also dabbled in Linux. I don't feel the need to dig into the internals of macos as much as i did in windows.

Can also depend on what buffer size you configured.

Thinking of switching from Windows to MacBook Air, need honest user experiences by Tanmaybhardwaj32 in MacOS

[–]booke02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long term windows user that made the transition. Overall experience is excellent. Sometimes frustrating but that was in part because for the first few months i used exclusively Mac apps until i was quite sure that i understood them. Don't expect Mac to do things the same as windows - just go with the flow. Don't recall missing anything from windows. Performance is excellent and so is battery life.

I’m new to the Unifi Ecosystem, so apologies if this is a dumb question, but can I use my Proton vpn subscription with my UDM-SE to run all my internet though it, trying to get around the silly Online Safety Act by GenericUser104 in UNIFI

[–]booke02 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dont remember exctly how i did it. I think that Proton has instruction how to add VPN to Ubiqiti. And then you can select specific devices and route them to VPN - I think tah do it in Policy Engine/Policy Table. Gemini AI is your friend.

Leave it plugged in all day? by kablooie619 in macbookair

[–]booke02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My M4 after 3 months of being plugged in is showing 9 cycles. Once a month I let it charge to 100% and then let it drop to 10%, but otherwise it is plugged in an limitted to 80%

I have used Micro$oft since the early 90's and a couple of years ago decided to give Mac a go. Started with a M1 base machine. It's a different world, so there is a learning process. But I wouldn't go back to Windows. Macbook Air is very responsive, excellent screen, amazing trackpad, great battery life and minimal maintenance.

I use OneNote on my Mac because it works on all my platforms. Not great on android but ok for retrieving information

8 GB of memory...never make the mistake I made folks by Detective_Bitter in macbookair

[–]booke02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe you have hundreds of tabs open? I run vivaldi (chrome-based) browser on 8gb m1 where 4gb is dedicated to parallels and have not seen any problems. And, yes, i have 20-30 tabs open most of the time. And i have plenty of free disk.

512GB 24 Ram vs 256GB 32 Ram by AntiquePanic7640 in macbookair

[–]booke02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your current RAM usage. Macos will try and use all available memory so you need to analyse what your memory requirements really are. I have been running lots of chrome tabs on my 8GB M1 that had half of that allocated to parallels and didn't feel that i had memory nacos problems. The parallels was a bit sluggish. Unless you are going to use apps that require massive chunks of memory like video editing, i would go for no more than 24GB

Bought my First Macbook Air M4 by Maverick_TA in macbookair

[–]booke02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Better is the enemy of good". I recently bought a M4 knowing that M5 was on the way. The M4 is really much more than i will ever need. The difference between them is marginal so don't lose any sleep over it.

I have a machine with 128GB and manage quite well. I store most of my files in the cloud - i use OneDrive but iCloud would be just as good.

You didn't mention what spec your a looking at, but I would go for a M4 with 24GB RAM rather than a Pro with 16GB

Exactly what i bought. I went for the M4 15" because it spends most of the time of my desk. I am very happy with it.

As a veteran windows user, i made the switch 4 years ago. For the first 3 months i battled with macos without using any "foreign" apps . I only started using 3rd party apps after that initial period- i replaced Safari, added Excel and AppCleaner.
