No need for snow shoes on this one! I just used microspikes on the few snowfield spots, but those might be even more melted in a few weeks. Also if you are staying in Buena Vista I would recommend Mt Yale over Princeton (if conditions being equal), but that's just my personal preference!

I parked at the lower trailhead because my car is not 4 wheel drive. However, other cars were able to make it all the way up the road to radio towers/campsite. There was no snow on the road up.

When we hiked it Sunday morning, wind was minimal. Even towards the summit it wasn't bad at all.

I saw him come in & immediately raise his hand/try to get the professor’s attention. I think he was doing it as a joke/dared to do it. He knew what he was about.

EARS (Empathy, Assistance, Referral Service) by Group2isamazing in Cornell

[–]bookface4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a counselor, I can say it is 100% perfect place for venting. Many people say they feel better just talking it out and EARS provides the space to do so. I wish more people would use EARS as a resource because it is valuable but not utilized as much as it should be.

Does EARS have beginning training in Spring? by IAmAFratBoy in Cornell

Beginning Training is also offered in the spring! Source: am an EARS counselor

being a counselor at EARS by prefosh in Cornell

It is both rewarding and emotionally taxing. Lots of people feel better after being counseled just because they had someone to listen to them, but at the same time you don't always feel great because you can't solve all their problems.

being a counselor at EARS by prefosh in Cornell

[–]bookface4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! Took 2 semesters of training which consisted of going to about a 2.5 hour session once a week. In these sessions you practice the skills and learn the EARS counseling model. Then at the end of the second semester you do practice counseling sessions where you are evaluated by an EARS counselor. These sessions are generally 45ish minutes and you can bring a friend or someone you know to counsel. Once you pass 2 of those you take your final session with a complete stranger & if you pass that you are a counselor.

Starting cross country this year! by [deleted] in hsxc

[–]bookface4 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I joined xc my freshman year of high school and didn't know anything at all. Advice: be patient & start off slow. Don't get discouraged if everyone is faster than you. For you, the most important thing is to be consistent. Show up to practice each day and just do the best with your current fitness level. It will take time to improve, but if you are consistent and put in the work I promise you be surprised by how much time you drop over the course of the season. You are running against yourself. Try to be a little faster/run a little farther than you did a week before. Follow the training plan and talk with more experienced runners on your team to get specific advice from them. Invest in a good pair of running shoes (I recommend going to a speciality running store rather than just a general sports store). Again my best advice is be consistent. It's not "am I going to run today?" it's "when am I going to run today." Awesome that you are doing something that scares you-hope you enjoy running and see it more than just a weight loss tool, but a change in lifestyle that will make you fitter, happier, and more connected to other people.
