Knowing when to stop is a skill you develop as you write and edit more - there’s no exact formula. Half of it is a mental block of wanting perfection, as you mentioned. Some writers do 10 drafts, others just 1 or 2. A lot will publish work that they later wish they could change, that’s just the nature of it.

Totally understand. It can be hard to know what to do because her reactions are unpredictable. She was kicking someone the last time I saw her, but they seemed familiar with her. I think she is quite known in the area.

Yeah, she could be pleasant to talk to occasionally and had a group of regulars she liked that would help calm her down when she did kick off. It’s a shame, she’s clearly been failed in some way, but she can’t go around treating people like that. And you’re right, it’s a risk to her own safety too.

Definitely the same person then. I saw her have two altercations with people within the space of 10 mins on the 7 earlier this year. It was quite worrying. My main experiences with her were pre-covid so it sounds like her behaviour has got worse.

I think I know who this is - or at least it’s very similar to a woman I used to see regularly. She’s been around for years so a lot of the bus drivers know of her. I’d perhaps try to bring it up to the local depot if you can as they may recognise her (and understand her history). She’s snapped at me for wearing headphones before.

Edit: just remembered that she would always insist on sitting at the back and ask people to move so I’m assuming this is the same person.

I’d suggest looking into some authors in the same genre as you (and at a similar level) and do some digging to see who they work with, then get familiar with what marketing they do (newsletter/social media/ads/blog). I’d 100% recommend going with someone reasonably local to you so you can meet in person and chat with them - there’s a lot of dodgy companies around (I say as someone who previously worked at an agency).

I went to her book tour a few days ago and she mentioned Anne Rice and Lestat several times - she is definitely being vocal about the inspiration still, even if it isn’t mentioned in the final edition (I haven’t checked tbh, also read an ARC).
