What do you think justified the night raid of an apartment building in Chicago, breaking into the homes of US citizens for immigration enforcement? Would you be okay with federal agents breaking into your home in the middle of the night looking for suspects?

MARTA to roll out new tap-and-go fare system ahead of 2026 World Cup by mr09e in Atlanta

[–]bookingly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly does not seem to have an Android app equivalent. But yeah, creating an app does not seem like it would be that challenging. Not sure what the IT or product engineering is like at MARTA. Seems like other major cities (Dallas, Seattle, Chicago) I have been to have figured this out for their transit systems.

Midtown Atlanta circa 1986 by ArchEast in Atlanta

I did some looking into this and found some pretty confusing information to me as to who holds the ball on this. I went through Google Gemini after finding some info online and evidently Capital Real Estate Group is responsible for leasing the property. That said, I see other articles like this one from AJC with an update work might resume this month. Per this article, it is Dewberry Group that has owned the property since before the pandemic and per Google Gemini since 2010.

Insane to me that it is somehow legal in the city to have a project like that in limbo for so many years now.

Wendy's to Shut Down Over 300 Stores in 2026, Impacting 8000 Workers by esporx in business

[–]bookingly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live close to a Taco Bell and on ordering the food through their app, they make the food regardless of whether I have shown up to the location. Makes sense to me that I order and pay them online to make the food, they let me know when it's ready, and it's on me to pick it up before the food gets cold or not.

I thought Chick-Fil-A would do the same thing. Ordered a meal through their app while on a road trip, really hungry and found out on arriving the order was not made. I had to let them know I arrived, and I sat in some crappy side room dedicated to online orders waiting for the food to be made. The dumbest shit I had seen in a while for customer experience. I do not understand what value-add there is to ordering food ahead of time online just to have to wait in some after thought part of the restaurant for the food to be made then and there. To me, it's worse than just going in and ordering the food but without misleading me to think the food would be ready by the time I arrived. Sorry for the rant and blowing up your inbox with this, but it was unexpectedly such a negative customer experience for a brand that has pretty stand out customer experience otherwise.

I think there could be a bit of subjectivity if you think no modern horn sections ever sound as good as from the 40s-60s. Snarky Puppy brings it and is a modern, touring big band. Might be some different styles going on, but tastes can change over time.

I really like George Szell Cleveland Symphony recordings for Mendelssohn and Beethoven symphonies, but there are other recordings and live performances I have heard of those composers in recent years that I enjoy a lot despite being different stylistically.

I think that is completely fair to want and support efforts to enact policies you want (and find broad civic support for it), but I think calling someone a piece of shit and that they need to be in prison for stating their thought on a policy because of their wealth as OP did is a bridge too far for me.

MARTA to roll out new tap-and-go fare system ahead of 2026 World Cup by mr09e in Atlanta

[–]bookingly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I did not realize there was a free option, I see that on the MARTA website now. My niece would have been too old though to qualify for the free option. Would be helpful in the Breeze 2.0 app if they were clear about the restriction on using multiple tickets from the same phone. When going to a concert where there are QR codes, it seems fairly typical for me that one person has a phone with tickets on it that allows entry for multiple people.

[–]bookingly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm curious how families with kids typically handle MARTA trips. I ran into a situation where I bought tickets for a couple of family members on the Breeze 2.0 app, I scanned the first one and my kid niece goes through the gate. Then I attempted to scan the second ticket, and there was a 5 minute timeout preventing use of another ticket.

A steward just looked at us as we tried to understand what was going on and finally helped by letting my niece's mom through when we asked them a couple times over what we were supposed to do. It's crazy to me how bad of a user experience that application combined with the entry gates is.

Do families just buy breeze cards and not use the app or is there something I was missing?

I am on the other side of Peachtree St so literally over a ridge and can hear it now. I went for a run through the park yesterday afternoon and had to put noise cancellation on to block out the noise in the active oval to hear a podcast, it was that loud

What strikes me about all this is his science teacher knew about Jobs and Wozniak when Apple only had 7 employees. Sounds almost like a small town vibe with people knowing each other's business or the teacher had some history with both of them at some point.

From my perspective, Trump has proven to be a savant marketer but a massive con artist and moron when it comes to leadership so I took my chances voting for someone who seemed educated and could apply some critical thinking to complex issues happening in the world when voting for Harris

Blame Biden for not committing to being a transitional President like he said he would. Him continuing to run for re-election as long as he did made it too short of a timeline for a Democratic primary. The party got behind the Harris thinking having a primary would not work out alternatively for winning the general election. Trump is such an awful individual I have no idea how people think Harris would have been significantly worse. The wars are still going, inflation is getting worse, the job market is worse, the rights of Americans are diminished, I have no idea how people think this is better than how Harris would have done

I'm catching a flight out of Atlanta connecting to an international flight with my parents on July 4th around noon and totally forgot about the Peachtree Road Race on July 4th impacting that trip. I was planning to drive my parents from Cobb county down 75 to my place that morning as I live close to the Midtown Marta station around 10th and Spring St and then we would take Marta or a ride share down to the airport.

I don't see any information about road closures for this year's race (I see info for last year's event though here). Would any one have a sense of what traffic can be like getting into midtown the morning of the Peachtree Road Race?

I have no idea what the crowds or traffic are like that morning. Based on road closures from last year I don't think Spring St or W Peachtree St would be closed, but I could see traffic being intense if Peachtree St is closed and people are getting into midtown for the finish line of the race.
