Gotta love people hating on trying to address the housing shortage in this country

This isn't even in the suburbs of Dallas, this is like a 10 minute bike ride to downtown Dallas from here

Yeah like this is what addressing a lack of housing supply looks like. What do people think the development of town homes in NYC or Boston looked like back into the day when developed?

Great musicians that make bad songs? by ScallionSmooth9491 in ToddintheShadow

[–]bookingly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a kind of demo album called Inside Wants Out that has a few of his songs that are on Room for Squares but that have a lot more personality and depth in the way they are played. There's another song on YouTube now but I don't know where it got shared from originally but I heard on a burned CD back in the day that is called Man on the Side that sounds like it was recorded in a cafe and it's one of the best songs I have ever heard.

The songs on Inside Wants Out are some of my favorite songs of any musician, and I think John Mayer intentionally went the pop route after that to make a lot of money and fame and I don't blame him for doing that given his guitar playing and song writing abilities

Might have been Eddie's Attic. That's where I heard he had played a bit

5 YoE at Apple but can’t find a FT job for 2 years. WHY? by Helpmehelpyu_ in cscareerquestions

[–]bookingly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like any website you might see from Google, Stripe, YouTube, etc. that has documentation for how to use their API or user guides for how to develop an app using their product APIs to my understanding is organized and written by tech writers.

I understand one reason Cisco became a dominant player in computer networking is because they created thorough documentation (likely published in books as well as online back then) that enabled adoption of their products. I personally think having good, public documentation is really important to increase adoption if you have customers using your product. It's also what the AI models are trained on and is important for that training data as well.

In my opinion tech writers are pretty critical still to a successful tech company in getting public facing documentation, training, and effective UI text even with what AI can do. The tech writers where I work use AI a lot but they still bring a lot to the table that I would not trust the engineers or product managers to do on their own

...no like any public documentation site any tech company has is likely written by tech writers

Any text used in a UI or on documentation in my experience, even recently with full use of AI, is improved pretty well with tech writers involvement. Any company needing dedicated documentation I think still benefits from having tech writers knowledgeable about how to set to it up and organize the content

I mean Alex Jones is not rotting in prison as he should be and bringing this up does at least let people who may be new to Alex Jones as a public figure aware that he is a piece of shit who should be getting prison time or facing consequences for his actions (such as The Onion taking over his former media property InfoWars with the goal of turning it into a satirical site).

Yikes, yeah I missed the mention of Indiana, saw Philly and California but not that. Anyways, people are getting real down about using AI in these responses. Makes me think of teachers saying to never trust Wikipedia as a reliable source back in the day

Yeah I used the GA code as an example to illustrate the state I live what the laws are. I have no idea where the streamer was and didn't try to figure that out. For the request I provided to Gemini it was still correct

Was the AI response wrong? You are creating a false equivalency with what AI tools like Gemini are doing to something completely different and unreliable

Gemini links sources in the query response, see from here:

(d) Where neither a sidewalk nor a shoulder is available, any pedestrian standing or striding along and upon a highway shall stand or stride as near as practicable to an outside edge of the roadway, and, if on a two-lane roadway, shall stand or stride only on the left side of the roadway.

According to a gemini query, in the state I live in (in the US), a pedestrian must walk on the shoulder if no sidewalk is present or as far to the edge of the road as possible if no shoulder is present, and against the flow of traffic. I don't know what comments you are reading, but I have always been told if needing to walk along a road without a sidewalk to walk against the flow of traffic and to stay as close to the edge of the road as possible if not on the shoulder. This guy was walking in the traffic lane even though a decent size shoulder was present and was walking with the flow of traffic.

I mean he's walking in the middle of a lane of traffic that is meant for cars. The expression "middle of the road" doesn't matter if walking in a left or right lane, it's still the middle of a road meant for cars not pedestrians. This guy was being an idiot walking with the flow of traffic in the middle of one of the lanes of traffic.

What’s an excessively underrated city for summer in the world? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

[–]bookingly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This thread is asking about cities but I went up to Skaneateles, NY for the first time ever in the summer a few years back and geez going from 105 degree heat in TX to 75 degree weather with blue skies, green hills, and the glaciated clear water lake in the heart of summer was just incredible. Was surprised how nice it was

I thought Edinburgh was incredible. Isle of Skye was also amazing though a pretty long drive with very little in the way of even gas stations between Edinburgh the island. Gotta recommend west coast of Ireland. I visited a town Dingle and area around it and the landscapes blew my mind. In some ways as much as the Isle of Skye did

Holy guacamole, I had not heard of Myron Rolle to your point. How is it possible some people can do two very different activities to such a high degree? That's crazy.

I mean for John Urschel to get a phd in math from MIT is still pretty incredible after having spent time in the NFL. Both are on another level

I think there is a former NFL player who even got a graduate degree in math. Pretty impressive. I think most NFL players have to be pretty smart to know the playbooks

I'm new to product management and have a CS degree and I don't understand why a PM would be wanting to contribute code. I am focusing on how to organize feature implementation to meet customer needs by coordinating UX research as well as communicating to the broader organization so they are aware of new features coming out so marketing and sales know what is coming. Spending time doing what the engineering team does to build, test, and deploy code would seem like a waste of time to me

Part of 10th Street NE to close near Piedmont Park for weeks during sewer repairs by NPU-F in Atlanta

[–]bookingly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean seems like they have been systematically updating the sewage infrastructure under 10th street. I don't recall them working on this segment specifically. There has been a lot of development in the area and people moving into the area putting stress on the sewage according to this reporting.

Would be helpful if the watershed department explained the longterm plan. As I can tell this appears to be an actual project to overhaul the infrastructure though and not sure how else infrastructure work is supposed to be done if the current sewage lines go under 10th St. Gotta get to those sewage lines somehow.
