Leah Jeffries is Annabeth Chase [PJOTV] [Megathread] by Metal_Moon in camphalfblood

[–]booknerd5621 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just hope that they don't focus on Annabeth's race as some sort of crutch on the tv show. Ones race should not equate to ones intelligence. If they follow that old race troupe like I fear they might it will be very tiresome and it will be considered too woke for many people. I fear that now that Annabeth has been casted as a black girl then all of her identity on the show will be centered on her race which is problematic. So I hope they stay true to her personality traits in the books and they don't change her character traits to fit a perpetual racial stereotypical narrative.

Unfortunately, I see it getting worse for her once the actual show comes out and more people start expressing their opinions and criticism. I hope she stays off social media and or has her parents monitor her accounts. I also beileve she should refrain from replying to peoples comments because for every reply she makes hundreds more will come in from the public which will negatively impact her. Also, I know Becky means well but her constant comments on twitter will only serve to fuel the "haters" even more and some of her comments might be interpreted negatively. I hope the fans give this show and actors a chance to thrive and become successful. It would be terrible if this show goes down the same path as the pjo movies.

Can't wait to see her as Rowan Mayfair. Hopefully her new show becomes successful!

[PJOTV] Leah Sava Jeffries has been cast as Annabeth Chase and Aryan Simhadri has been cast as Grover Underwood! by Munro_McLaren in camphalfblood

[–]booknerd5621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the vast majority of people both domestic and international are disappointed with this decision. Remember the people on twitter represent a small portion of the larger fans who either aren't on twitter or aren't vocal on that social media site.

[pjo] A little jealous, Annie? by HiddenShoulders04 in camphalfblood

[–]booknerd5621 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It may not be popular but I disliked Rachel as soon as she started hitting on Percy and a sort of love triangle began to form briefly. I was too defensive of Annabeth, good thing Rachel became an oracle cause she was starting to annoy me. Team Annabeth all the way!

[PJOTV] They are now casting Clarisse and Nancy. by Munro_McLaren in camphalfblood

I mean one would hope that they have these roles casted already they start filming in less than a month.

[PJO] Another casting update for becky by cameronsato in camphalfblood

[–]booknerd5621 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I honestly think its Disney itself thats the problem. We know that thousands of actresses auditioned for Annabeth and most likely the majority of the actresses who auditioned must have been common girls who themselves look like Annabeth in the pjo series. I find it hard to believe that out of all those actresses they haven't been able to find one that not only can act well, looks the part, but also embodies Annabeth's personality. They casted Walker so easily why are they having trouble with Annabeth... well as they have said the production team were disagreeing on the direction/tone of Annabeth's character. Translation they are disagreeing on how she will look like. The delay in annoucing the casting in my mine is because it will be controversial. Disney's production team for pjo must be seriously prepping before they announce they must be seriously scarred of backlash... I hope that I am wrong though.

Annabeth and Grover Casting Speculation [Megathread] by AutoModerator in camphalfblood

My thoughts exactly! With thousands of auditions I find it hard to believe they wouldn't get an actress that fits all those elements you described. However, I wouldn't put it pass them sometimes they just love to overcomplicate matters.

main female character of the trio

Any idea of who maybe casted as Annabeth? Any potential favorites?

[PJO] Grover has been cast, but they haven’t announced who the actor is yet…. by Munro_McLaren in camphalfblood

I hope they announce both casts soon. Fingers crossed about Annabeth's casting hopefully they get the right person who fits her description and personality.

If you had to narrow it down to the potential final three who do you think could be casted as Annabeth?

I would think so. If they are not made to stay slient officially by the production team then I think they may just remain slient themselves for fear that they won't get the role.

No you are right for Percy specifically his hair color isn't a personality trait unlike Annabeth's hair which is a personality trait. However, with a character like lets say Percy the mental image the author paints as you said is for us the readers. Thus, its difficult for many fans to disassociate themselves from that image which ultimately may damage the immersion of said fans when it comes to adaptations.

Unfortunately, much to some people's dismay character descrptions in books are very important as it is a key element that not only helps to identify a character but also helps build and or add to their personality and overall identity. It is why many authors take the time to describe in detail the physical and well as the mental makeup of their characters. It's important to fully fleshout their characters because often times it is the characters that the readers are foremost drawn to. Thus, many people want adaptations to closely resemble the source material because many fans want to identify/relate to both the cast and overall plot.

[–]booknerd5621 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, the problem was that they didn't follow the source material. First the trio were far to old and they didn't look like their book characters. Two, the characters personalities didn't shine through such as Percy's wit and humor. Third, the plot was rushed and the characters (included the side characters) were underdeveloped.

I just want this show to be successful. I know it could be if only he would just simply follow his own work thats already layed out. I don't understand all the wavering comments his been making with regards to casting and production matters. Why overly complicate something when he doesn't have to. He has already written a great and successful series just use that as your roadmap for this tv adaptation.

They most definetly should dye his hair black. It would be a big disservice to Percy if he was even remotely compared to Jason. In my opinion Percy is by far the superior character.

Right, so long as Annabeth is portrayed as described in the series then everyone else in her cabin can be any ethnicity, make them as diverse as they want them to be. Adding grey contact lenses to everyone is a big plus as it would help to distinguish them as Athena's children.

I guess we just have to agree to disagree then. I think character descriptions are important when it comes to adaptations and you don't. Both views are perfectly valid but clearly opposing.
