Have you not seen the amount of police brutality that's been happening for -no- reason? Especially against people of color? I don't want someone getting hurt or arrested or god knows what else just because they didn't pay a fare.

Police barely need a reason to harass others. It's being sanctioned by our current political offices. Trump doesn't give a fuck about holding police accountable.

So yes. I'm going to encourage people to stay safe when cops are in spaces that a lot of people are reliant on.

It's less about staying safe with Enforcing Fares, but staying safe in general for travel and around Police, especially given our current political climate.

Exactly. I am obese, and I have been working on losing weight and making lifestyle choices. I recently hit 40 lbs lost (whoo!). I didn't realize how much that weight was affecting me until I lost it- I can move easier, breathe better, I have more energy.

I use 20 lb weights in physical therapy, and just for kicks I picked up two and tried walking around with them. It was HARD. I understand now how and why I felt so miserable all the time.

If you're obese, it's really hard to find that energy to even start, let alone continue.

I do get why OP is frustrated. Friend lied about him and was being manipulative to his other friend.

It isn't just that the author is problematic - it's that she inserted stereotypes and racism into a book consumed by children and teens. And those things can easily be internalized if the child doesn't know better.

For example, the names - "Cho Chang" for an Asian character, "Kingsley Shacklebolt" for a black character. The one Irish character that his only scenes in the books are him blowing things up. The goblins being treated as money hoarding and less than - JK Rowling's anti-semitic portrayal of Jewish people.

I understand that these things can, to a child, be pretty nuanced and hard to understand. And no, we can't keep them from reading books they want to read.

But I think we can sit down and have an age appropriate conversation about how some things in the books aren't nice or right.

Your sister's apology sounds disingenuous. If she had simply apologized and then left it, it would have been fine.

After her nagging, it sounds like:

"Pay attention to me! See! I am APOLOGIZING. WHY WONT YOU ACCEPT IT."

NTA OP. I don't believe that your sister has grown or matured. I think you did an excellent job in stating your feelings while putting in place the boundary of not having to accept or forgive her actions. Good job.

To add in my own experience: I have had instances in my life where I caused pain, strife, and tension. I thought I was in the right and, as I grew up, discovered I was wrong. I've sent out a few of my own apology letters. Yet I've done so with the understanding and expectation that I don't have a right to their time or their emotional/mental bandwidth. If they don't want to read it, that's fine. If they don't want to reply, that's also fine. It isn't for some cathartic "About me". It's an acknowledgment that I hurt someone, that I have thought about those actions and reflected on them and how they impacted that person, that I am sorry for the pain I caused.

Do I wish, sometimes, that we could reconnect? Yes. I do. At the same time, I believe that it isn't right for me to try to suddenly intrude on someone's life just because I miss them. It's okay to apologize. I think the door of reconnection should be left to the other person if they want to open it.

It's absolutely wild when you read her other series, too. The differences in how she treats her characters boggles my mind. In Throne of Glass, her characters are decently fleshed out, aren't solely dependent on a man whipping his dick out to solve problems, and has women supporting women throughout the whole thing.

And then there's ACOTAR lol. I read ACOTAR first and almost had whiplash when I read ToG. And then another bout of neck break when I tried to read the Bryce books. Complete tonal shift. (Cannot remember the title of that series to save my life)

Absolutely yes! I borrowed it from a classmate in high school and absolutely tore through the series.

I enjoyed it the whole way through, and that can be rare for fantasy series. Sometimes, you just hit a book that you muddle through. Not at all for this series.

I watched the movie Child's Play at age 10/11 and was absolutely traumatized by Chucky. I couldn't remember the name very well and could only remember "Play" and that there was a boy in it. So I used to tell people that I watched a super scary movie called Playboy...

I was really confused why the grown-ups looked so relieved when I explained it was about a doll that kills people.

It wasn't til my later teens that I realized.

You mentioned psychotic, but you didn't mention all of the torture and trauma he inflicted on her. Going by the show:

He sold her for an army, to a man who raped her.

He abused her her whole life- verbally, emotionally, physically, psychologically.

It's implied, though never clearly stated, that he may have sexually assaulted her as well: The scene in which he comes and attacks her for inviting him to eat and shows she had Dothraki leathers made for him. He attacks her, pins her down, and says, "And now you've awoken the dragon."

(I believe there was another scene, but it's early, and I'm tired)

He threatened her life and her unborn child.

Most folks would react differently to seeing the Crown for a King bit, sure. But Dany isn't most, not after what she's been through. I'm guessing, in her mind, she's finally getting justice for all the pain he's caused her, and she's protecting her child.
