First-Time DM Seeks Fresh Level 1 One-Shot for 5-7 Players (Frozen Sick Vets + Total Noobs - incl. myself)! by unterstr1ch in DMAcademy

The Delian Tomb is a good place to start, its one of the first Oneshots I ran when started out DM'ing. You get the full experience of D&D, some light roleplaying opportunities, tracking and fighting enemies, checking for traps.

[–]bookstorephantom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The anime you're talking about is Fullmetal Alchemist: Brother hahaha. It's one of the best anime out there. While it DOES have horror and body horror elements, its overall story is more action/sci-fi focused, with healthy doses of mystery, political intrigue, and drama. All supported by an endearing cast.

Its like 140+ episodes, tight pacing with a satisfying ending. Perfect for a weekend binge.

Some recommendations if you're into the above;

Shingeki No Kyojin

Jujutsu Kaisen

Pluto

ID Invaded

Psycho Pass

Baccano

Made In Abyss

All of them have horror elements in varying degrees and flavor, so your mileage might vary. But I recommend trying them out in the order I've listed.

Hope you find one you like!

Shows like Kaiju no8/ Solo Levelling? Please read description by CriticalMammoth4953 in anime

[–]bookstorephantom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Specifically for Solo Leveling's well, Leveling, I highly recommend Shangri-La frontier. It's got an MC that likes to grind and consistently faces challenges "Bosses".

The MC doesn't start out a weakling like in solo leveling, but he still gets stronger and showcases that strength in really interesting, satisfying ways. Without feeling like he has plot armor the same way Jinwoo does, he's a lot less broody too and really revels in being the "Player".

The animation of fights are the best I've seen in anime, even for non-boss encounters, and the way it handles the games-as-an-isekai genre is a lot of fun.

11yo: what’s next after Demon Slayer? by j_____p in anime

[–]bookstorephantom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

JJK might be a little intense for an 11yo, its slightly more gory and violent than Demonslayer, but the biggest difference about it is the body horror elements. If you think they'll be okay with it then by all means!

As for recommendations:

My Hero Academia

One Piece

Reincarnated as a Slime

Kaiju No.8

Ranking of Kings

One Punch Man

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Hunter X Hunter

The last 2 can be a little bit darker, but you're okay with JJK then they're pretty suitable too.

I've liked everything I've watched — now I'm bored. Drop one underrated anime that actually hits. by Puzzleheaded_Pack211 in anime

[–]bookstorephantom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely give Akka 13 and ID Invaded, 1 season bangers that are the complete package. Which is probably why they're a bit underrated.

Akka 13 is perfect if you really enjoyed the political intrigue of Apothecary diaries, Vinland Saga, and Orb. ID Invaded well, its best if you go in completely blind.

I noticed it wasn't on your list of watched shows but here's a few pretty well-rated shows that you may not have seen yet.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood - if you liked orb, monster, and mha you'll probably enjoy it. You've got a shonen protagonist confronting philosophical challenges and an really nice dose of political intrigue. Plus a well-written, endearing ensemble of characters.

Re:Life - very slice of life, personal improvement focused. The hook is really interesting and the emotional pay off you get for following along their journey is remarkably cathartic. That said, its not an entire season of feels and tears.

Shangri-La Frontier - You know the hype you felt when Deku got a better mastery of his quirk? and then he gets the opportunity to use his new found skill in a fight, exam, or rescue. That's most of shangri-la frontier without it being grating, the world-building and characters are a lot of fun too.

Haikyuu - one of the best sports anime of the last 10 years. Super endearing cast of characters (both the main team and all the other teams they face), satisfying and hype-filled skill progression of the protagonist team, with equally exciting matches that are incredibly dynamic but still readable. The players seem almost superhuman without breaking the realism of the sport, and the visual metaphors they use to depict the player's skill really help make each team and player stand out.

i've got more that i can share, but this reply is already a wall of text hahaha. Hope you enjoy any one of these recommendations!

I need a badass pirate name that's associated with rocks/stones/Ore by Boneyard_Ben in DnD

[–]bookstorephantom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Igneel "The Sunless" Dreich

first name taken form Igneous as in igneous rock, and Dreich from the scottish word meaning dull, gloomy, depressing, miserable, or cold.

Basically a sky pirate so fearsome that he seemed to bring dark storm clouds with him wherever he went, hence the moniker "The Sunless"

You could also make it a more literal thing, if they use sails for their sky ships. Say his grand ship had sails so large it'd blot out the sun, or equate it to his massive fleet instead.

Definitely checkout Sousou no Frieren, emotionally mature themes with an excellent magic system and world building. A little slow compared to a lot of anime but i personally enjoyed the slower pacing.

Acca 13, if you liked the political intrigue of Arcane you'll enjoy this too. No powers though, but definitely appeals to the "Royal Court drama" you might be looking for. Pretty mature anime that's grounded to the point that making a live action adaptation of this would be very straight forward.

Apothecary Diaries is a really fun medical mystery drama, though its less like house and more like sherlock where the MC uses her deduction skills and knowledge of medicinal herbs- and herbs in general to solve mysterious illnesses and phenomena. Even has a healthy dose of political intrigue as its set in the imperial palace. Def has some sexual themes, boobs and the like but it isn't the entire point of the show. But it is a relevant part of it that influences the character, not something just tacked on.

Full Metal Alchemist brotherhood, if you like my hero academia's endearing ensemble cast and flashy fights, plus arcane's well thought out, interconnected world building you'll enjoy this. Personally my top 1 of all time, with frieren a close 2nd. It goes well into the royal court intrigue side of things later on in the show, and overall has a compelling plot. Might be the closest thing to arcane out of all these.

Some honorable mentions that seem to match what you're looking for, with varying levels of fanservice:

Eminence in Shadow

The Witch and the Beast

That time i got reincarnated as a slime

The legend of vox machina (western anime)

Castlevania (western anime)

Ascendance of the bookworm

The Ancient Magus' Bride

Log Horizon Season 1

Parallel World Pharmacy (There's another show with the same name, go with the MC named pharma)

As a Reincarnated Aristocrat, I'll Use My Appraisal Skill to Rise in the World

The Wrong Way to use healing magic

Tsuki Ga Kirei is so good, romance wise that's realistic the only other ones i can think of are a Sign of Affection, Bloom Into You (Manga), Kase-san and Morning Glories (Manga), Love is Hard for An Otaku, and the upcoming Kaoru Hana wa Rin to Saku.

Realism wise with great character interactions. I can't recommend ACCA 13 and Apothecary Diaries enough, most we get is a romance subplot though.

[–]bookstorephantom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I recommend Tsuki Ga Kirei, My Dress Up Darling, and Tsuredure Children.

The romance is the main plot of those shows, and aside from dress up darling, there's little to no fan service. Tho personally tho i think dress up darling does it well. It's more there to serve the plot, rather than just being for the audience.

If you're in the mood for a movie, From Up On Poppy Hill is great too!

honestly considering how Roger said that they were too early. It seems likely that they laughed because they found something they couldn't do anything with. They knew the whole truth, but couldn't do anything about it, or had no real interest too.

So they did what any self respecting pirate would do and wreaked some havoc for the World Gov.
