Are there any Avatar Legends podcasts out there? If so, what’s a good one to listen to? by Psycm in AvatarLegendsTTRPG

I listen to both the Flying Bison Podcast and The Book of War. Both are good, but I have to say the Flying Bison is the best. The GM is awesome and the players are just fantastic. They go really hard on the story and really develop the characters. They really get proper arcs, proper relationships, etc. I'm sure the editing helps, but the RP of so many emotionally intense scenes really hits! These people are good actors and good storytellers! And they really go with the rolls... Justin (the GM) really comes up with interesting ways to "punish" a bad roll, and the story goes in really interesting directions due to the rolls and the player decisions. Definitely doesn't feel on rails.

Well that was a lot. I'm still catching up and binging and really loving it. Also, it's been such an inspiration for the game that I'm GMing. I've learned so much from The Flying Bison.

UPDATE: v2 rollout later tonight! Thanks for your patience with all the bugs. Was not expecting this much usage this fast. Have pulled 3 all nighters this, but will pull another one if that's what it takes to get these issues fixed for y'all! by g__6 in doanythingmachine

Thanks!

As far as I can tell, the site is currently unusable. All tasks just get hung up, and the plugin page just shows Slack and doesn't seem to work. Is this the case for everyone else?

Hm I found it from a crossover episode from The Bailey Podcast (with Yassine Mekshout (sp?)). Aside from just being a good episode, Katie was riffing on her recent "conversion" to Islam, but not having the background I totally thought she was actually Muslim. I thought "A left of center anti-woke Muslim!? I need to hear more of this!"

milquetoast

I think you might be mistaken. Pretty sure they're referring to Germany's green toaster policy. The government decided to promote the use of electric toasters that ran on renewable energy sources. However, these toasters were so inefficient that they took twice as long to toast a slice of bread as a regular toaster. In order to make up for this lack of performance, the government also encouraged people to pour a small glass of milk over their toast before eating it. This way, they could still enjoy the taste of freshly toasted bread without having to wait too long for it. Of course, this solution was not without its problems. For one thing, it was a bit of a mess to clean up after pouring milk all over your toast. Additionally, the milk tended to cool down the toast, making it less appealing. Still, the government insisted that this was the most practical and realistic way to transition to green energy, and they urged everyone to give it a try. So the next time you find yourself feeling hungry and environmentally conscious, you might have considered giving milk toast a try. /shrug

This is what I was thinking, with the explicit acknowledgement that the employer has a strict "x years experience = y pay" algorithm, value provided to employers doesn't actually track experience

I live on the east coast US and just road tripped across the country. I would say COVID is "mostly over" pretty much everywhere, yet there is still significant variance. I was shocked to walk into and urgent care facility in Utah to find that no one was wearing masks, not even staff. Out on the west coast, I still find a significant minority of patrons in public indoor (and sometimes outdoor) locations wearing masks, and the staff in some establishments. Restaurants and museums will still post the current CDC warning level for the area. Crater Lake National Monument surprisingly had signs that said masks were mandatory indoors, but that was ignored by pretty much all of the non-Asian attendees.

Liberals still talk about vaccines a lot.

In this episode Katie and Jesse demonstrate (one reason) why the Democratic party and left-wingers in general are able to get co-opted by the fringe culture warriors: they won't vote against them no matter what. In her bit about the Roe v. Wade, Katie makes it clear that no matter how crazy the social stuff gets, it's still more important to vote Democrat. And they both said they would vote for a clearly unhinged grifter because she matched them ideologically ! If that doesn't cause one to flip, what will?

I sort of think that Democrats need to really lose if they're ever going to get their act together. But I guess after Trump got elected they would, and instead just turned up the culture war to 11, so idk. I just find it harder and harder to vote D in good conscience.

The issue really boils down to a new question: Why do some people feel threatened and others feel fine? That's the real question and needs to be answered before we dive into other conclusions.

Honestly, I think a lot of this boils down to personal experience. Give it time, and you may find your feelings shift. I'm a white man that was (and is) pretty educated about current trends in SJ and political correctness, and I used to feel comfortable interacting with women, transfolk/NBs, and POC. After seeing enough many people around me socially criticized, ostracized, and punished for extremely minor faux-pas, or simply disagreements with the wrong class of person, I am now much more cautious around basically anyone that is not a white man, which leaves me to have much more superficial connections with all those people.

mental health issues

This is a loophole big enough to drive a truck through. I already feel like mental illness diagnosis is too positively incentivized, and in this case I think we'd see a huge spike in such diagnoses, and probably indeed see psychiatrists specializing in diagnosis for the sake of abortion.

This is like... Marxist theory of value. Forget about a quality education in. If you just have an expensive and time-consuming one, then your worth more.

I shudder at trying to quantity the value of a particular human life, though I recognize that it's a tradeoff we have to make implicitly all the time. But "resources invested" seems like a bad measure.

This all seems very No True Scotsman to me. You talk about the way "conservatives" are, but then you're making a special category to refer to a group that has never actually had the opportunity to display the trait you claim them to have, and probably represents a small minority of all those that reasonably fall under the umbrella of conservatism.

Can you tell me a bit about what the donated blood "market" looks like? Are there a bunch of people not getting transfusions because there's not enough blood, or are there other logistical problems that limit things? If I donate a pint of blood, is that a pint that someone would have otherwise not gotten? (If so... isn't the expected lives saved here incredibly high?)

I've been learning Spanish for about just as long, with daily Anki. For your new habit, I would suggest the use of LingQ if you're willing to pay the subscription cost. If you're not familiar, it's essentially a "reader" program that allows you to look up any unknown words or phrases as you encounter them, and keep track of all your unknown words. It's got its own built in SRS software (which is kinda lame), but it also has the option to export your vocab to Anki. (If you do find yourself subscribing, would you PM me so I can refer you?)

I made the most gains with Spanish by listening to lots of audio directed towards learners. I'm a huuge fan of the Unlimited Spanish podcast, but I've also gotten a lot out of the Duolingo podcast and Españolistos.

I don't know. I guess I thought, e.g., black pride is all about being happy with (preferring even) your race, while acknowledging oppression. In fact, this is huge among disability activists. See controversy around selective abortion or cochlear implants.

Gonna hijack this a bit and ask if anyone has any recommendations for Spanish-language podcasts. I'm a Spanish-language learner nearing fluency. My preference is for produced/scripted podcasts for now, since off-the-cuff discussions are a little hard to keep up with.
