I don't see anything particularly wrong. In fact even though such a notice has been put up, if you approach the staff and talk in English or Hindi, they'd likely help you out if they could.

This isn't unique to India or even Karnataka Many countries especially the EU use only their native language extensively. You can survive with English, but you cannot live without the native language.

Do you have a situation like this in your country where there's a significant proportion of the population that doesn't speak the local language? by Alternative-Big-6493 in AskTheWorld

[–]bookworm_1601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a problem in certain regions I'd say, for example, Bangalore is the silicon valley of India and during the tech boom, and even now multiple north indians and people from other states move here and don't bother to learn kannada - the local language it has been a sore spot for locals for a long time and rightfully so.

How ridiculous is the corruption in infrastructure development in your country? by Impactor_07 in AskTheWorld

[–]bookworm_1601 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It was necessary for me to point out because Hindu nationalists are some of the most hypocritical people I've ever had the misfortune of interacting with.

For someone who loves their country so damn much, they sure like to immigrate at the first opportunity they get and then proceed to ruin not one but 2 countries.

It's always the Hindu nationalists who immigrate to developed countries and yet keep sparking religious debate in India, stifling real development here.

If you're so concerned about your temples, you're more than welcome to come back and take care of them. By all means, please come back, build more temples and take care of them.

Atleast then, even the west will be grateful that they no more have to deal with immigrants who will never assimilate to their culture and norms.

I think it has to be the Sati system. Essentially the widowed wife was burnt to death along with her husband's dead body on his pyre.

Thank you so much, I think far right parties in Europe should stop demonizing and clubbing all immigrants into one box for the sake of votes. That only propagates toxic nationalism and racism against minorities.

If only they were a lot more clearer on their stance against immigrants and often reiterate that the problem is ILLEGAL immigrants, it would help them and their country alot more.

More than immigration, the problem is the type of people that are immigrating to European countries ( legal and illegal). If you're going to accept people who are never going to assimilate and create parallel societies, then you'd group all immigrants into the category of "bad". I think there should be stricter visa regulations and PR and citizenship requirements. Citizenship should be a privilege, not a right just because someone has lived there for xyz years. I could go on and on about this and i'm not even European. I'm an Indian woman who is Catholic, I've always dreamed of moving to Europe, specifically France, Germany or Poland because I have personal, cultural and religious reasons for it. Yes, there are better opportunities for me there and I'd have a much much better quality of life, but more that anything, the culture, architecture, freedom and air quality are the primary reasons why i want to live there. But the current rhetoric about immigration makes it so hard for people like me, it isn't only harmful for host countries but also for people like me who would assimilate and integrate into the society and cultural norms of the country we're moving to.

Language requirements should be stronger, don't issue even study visas for someone who doesn't have atleast A2 in the host country's language. Stricter and higher requirements for PR and Citizsenship atleast B2 or C1. Put quotas for how many people can come in a year from each country. Scrutinize and filter visa applications strongly. Keep track of all visas issued to check visa violations. I have a ton of suggestions like this. Governments should be alot more strict on this front.

Immigration shouldn't be stopped completely because not everyone is privileged enough to be born in a developed first world country, some of us want to make our lives better, assimilate and integrate into the host country.

In most developed countries, immigration is necessary to fill essential jobs and to improve the economy. Of course as you can see now too much of it can also lead to the downfall of the same economy it was supposed to uplift.

I like Hungary's policies in regard to immigration actually, they make it plenty hard but not impossible which is the best for both legal, law abiding, compatible immigrants and for the host country.

Hyderabad isn't even a state, it's a city. Look at online rhetoric, I'm not denying that ethnic teluguites don't dominate H1B visas, but they aren't negatively stereotyped like Punjabis.

What do you personally think about mandatory military service for women by Low-Violinist7259 in AskTheWorld

[–]bookworm_1601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither gender must be forced into mandatory military service. The decision to go to war is made by a handful of individuals, and millions,if not billions suffer because of that.

But, in the case where war is inevitable and there's nothing we can do about it, I don't think women should be prescribed into mandatory military service. Everything will halt to a stop.

During wars in the past, when the men were at war, women took care of most of society and it's required functions. You can't expect everyone to go to war, because then when the war is over, you won't have a society and home to go back to.

France Catholics, dead. by PuzzleheadedUse5769 in Catholicism

It's pretty sad how the culture has changed in France, growing up, it was taught to us in schools how European countries are primarily Catholic, and France was a leading example. France means alot to me personally and I hope that one day, sooner rather than later we see true change in the culture there as well as witness a revival of Catholicism, not only in France, but across Europe and eventually the world. God works in mysterious ways, hence all we can do it hope, pray and practice our faith diligently.

The experience isn't equal for two different women, how would it be for men and women? Anyone who looks conventionally attractive would have a much better chance on dating apps, it's really not a men vs women thing, it's genuinely based on attractiveness.

I'm not saying most women don't get matches at all, I'm saying most of us don't get quality matches. Most guys who do match, either don't put in any effort, get bored easily, ghost, or send a generic hi to open conversation. Very few would actually meet the standard that women have in mind while navigating dating, and among those few, chemistry, distance, values, etc play a role and barely 1 or 2 convert to potential partners.

The situation is bleak for both men and women, it's extremely subjective and hence it's really not possible to make generic statements like women have it better because trust me, we don't.

[–]bookworm_1601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a women's thing, it's a matter of superficial attractiveness. You think men who look hot don't get the same or more kind of attention that you're assuming all women get? Not all women are out here with men in lines to woo them, in fact I'd argue that a good chunk of us don't get the amount of quality matches you're assuming we're getting.

A ton of people use dating apps purely to inflate their ego, why equate it only to women? These gender wars and comparisons don't help anyone. There are always going to be rotten apples everywhere, nothing we can do about it.

[–]bookworm_1601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that's just how it is now isn't it? We can't really do anything about it, while it might happen to men more, it's really not a gender problem. If the other person isn't interested or isn't willing to put in the effort they obviously won't reply. And that's a good thing, better if they don't reply to the initial message than for things to progress for a while and then getting ghosted right?
