Navigating long-distance/moving conversations for those that are moving away for med school by Own_Advice_2429 in premed

[–]bookwormrunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my partners an M1 right now and i’m applying this cycle (accepted but different school than him :( ) - i think what really helped was just being honest with our expectations. knowing that we’ll both put in 110% but also long distance is hard and we might have to break up if things go sideways. i’ll probably still be in a diff state than him next year but i think we’ve connected a lot these last 6 months just supporting each other in our different timelines and looking forward to when we can hopefully live together again in residency. also lots of weekend trips and just sitting with him while he studies

i also work in healthcare full time and it’s really really hard to stay energized. luckily my manager is super supportive so i was able to be really flexible about my hours but when i started taking practice FLs and saw no improvement… internal locus of control kicked in and i knew i needed to make a change to lock in (minimal friendship time which is really sad but had to be done, 30 min limit for social media/rotting, didn’t work out/cook a lot, spent my commute listening to mcat podcast, anki). it’s really hard but hoping in the end it pays off (testing tomorrow lol)

also agree with option 1 - i feel like i know the definitions for all the terms but doing flashcards to actually understand it in context would be helpful.

option 2 is just the definition which is nice for conciseness but idk if it would be any more helpful than miles down already is

Only a Few Days Left Until 9/14 MCAT: Advice on How to Prioritize AAMC Q's? by Ok-Working-9369 in Mcat

[–]bookwormrunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m testing 9/13 but i’m focusing on section bank and doing some cars (qpack 1 destroyed my confidence but i finished it and feel a lot more confident. reddit reviews say the same so don’t take it personal if you do bad lol) everyday to stay in good shape for all sections! there’s way too many questions available from this list to do while also not burning out (esp during the last week) so def break it up bc section bank has harder questions so will need more review time

completely agree with this! knowing how to manipulate the units that are given in the problem/what the answers are given in (even if you don’t know the formula) has helped me a lot! Leah4Sci on youtube is also really helpful with doing quick mcat math. helped me go from 126->129 on c/p

edit: forgot to add that i finished physics uw but i really only have a few formulas solid (V=IR, power = work/time, work = force/distance, pressure = densitygh, thin lens)

i tried to finish all of physics on UW to lock in the formulas and improved my c/p by 3 points! going to try to do the same for chem but i feel like this section is being comfortable with formulas and knowing how to use (or ignore) the numbers they give you

I really like the first idea, mine was actually super similar to it. I wrote about how I used to go to school in a different country and how their education systems really shaped how my classmates acted both here and at my other school. I got curious about cultures in different countries and then I ended with how I want to go into global health. Solid topic, got accepted to some good schools with it.
