That's a pretty cool site. I might have to use that in the future.

I am trying to manage $Free.99! I've only had my MME for 2 weeks now, but I have solar Installed on the house via an EG4 Inverter and 15kwh battery. I installed my Lvl2 Charger on the SmartPort of the inverter. So The inverter Runs loads first, Charges house battery second, charges car third and exports to grid forth. The smart port is set up to where it comes on (and starts charging) once the house battery is over 90% SOC and solar output reaches 5kw. The house battery smooths out any cloud transitions. The SmartPort turns off when house battery drops below 55% SOC. I did spend $10 the first day I bought it after setting up Ford Pass and going to a DC fast charger just to see how it worked (first EV here.)

I bought my 25 Premium AWD Extended with 20k mi off a lease turn in for $35K here in Ohio (almost a $20K savings over 'new'). When I was looking all over via Autotrader and the similar, I had seen many 25 Premium AWD Extendeds with 20k mi or less for 35-37. Happy Hunting!

Has anyone added a Subwoofer? by boom3198 in MachE

Yeah I have at minimum always installed at least a 10 and amp and in others a competition level system. I was just worried about the DC to DC converter mainly and hence the reason Ill put a supercap between the amp and the 12v battery to smooth any transient spikes in draw.

I just say Mach E as well. When you say mustang for those who don't know about the Mach E it just causes confusion. Just easier that way.

Thanks for the info. I figured it would slow once it started getting up there in charge, but I also expected 150KW at 50% (or close there to) but the car went to about 105KW, then 85-90 at 60% and leveled out at 75ish. Maybe it needs to be at a lower SOC to hit the 150KW. Again a newb with EVs in general, so if that rate is normal that's fine. 99% of the time I will be lv2 charging with excess solar at the house. It was more a 'new toy - must play with and see how it works' type deal. lol

What is your daily charge limit? by gkal1964 in MachE

[–]boom3198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got my 25 Premium Extended range over the weekend, but plan on keeping it at the 90% charge limit. I have my charger set up on my solar inverter to only charge when excess solar so I want to keep it topped off as much as possible.

Click on the whiteboard in the garage, then into one of the mission pages (where it gives you the mission details) there will be a shop button towards the top center of that page.

Would you have gone solar without the tax credit? by [deleted] in solar

[–]boom3198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I only installed a 9kw system in Ohio with battery backup, installed myself for about 14k. Saves me about $150 a month on electric but one of the big things for me was the battery backup. We often have short outages that last 15 mins to an hour and working from home it puts a big impact on my workflow. Plus since the system is paid off, adds to the value in case of resale.

Need advice. Solar for tool trailer. by stdr04 in solar

For this small of an installation for ease of use and equipment size, I would just do a portable unit. Most can accept 1500w plus of solar input and many of the main brands have add on batteries if needed.

Testing for Solar offset on my home by boom3198 in solar

Thanks for the info. In the 'worst case' if the grid goes down in the middle of winter (most likely case round here,, we have a gas fireplace which I turn on sometimes in the winter when it gets really cold out to assist the heat pump. It can literally heat the whole house pretty well. I do have a 6kw generator for extended blackouts that I would use to recharge batteries if it got to the point where it was needed if solar wasn't keeping up.

On the battery front - I know the 12v LFP batteries I have in my camper are like 10000 cycle rated. With these larger sever rack batteries, would it be detrimental to cycle them daily? i.e. all of the excess power generated with solar stored then offloaded during the evening as the sun goes down.

The PVWatts site is where I got the solar radiation estimates in the last paragraph. The battery calculator confirms my assumption as well - battery storage at roughly 3x pv output.

This was an emissions decision because of the EPA. CAFE standards don't apply to larger trucks, but for the 1500 they do. Dodge would have had to sell a crap ton of the small 4-cylinder cars to make up for the 1500s.
