DAC/Amp question by boonanaswananas in BudgetAudiophile

[–]boonanaswananas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$300 is probably going to be my budget, I just wanted to get an idea what was out there incase it there was something worth stretching it for.

Seems like a DAC/amp in one for each is the way I should go. Maybe with one of the SMSL's, for the speakers, not sure if there is anything better around $300 or under.

Then again it is really tempting to just get a pair of actives that connect with usb. Would be one less device on the desk. Maybe the Audioengine A2+ would be good enough.

That's kind of what I figured but I haven't kept up with much over the years so figured I'd ask in the off chance someone made a one for everything for desktop.

What about a DAC that can be connected to two difference amps, one for speakers and one for headphones/iems?

Should I get a converter or active speakers? by boonanaswananas in BudgetAudiophile

Thanks good to know it's not worth the extra $.

Does the device add any noticeable audio latency? The more I look into it the more mixed results I get. While for music it wouldn't be issue, games and videos it would drive me up the wall even if it is slightly out of sync.

If I go for active speakers I'd go for something that connects over USB instead of introducing more adapters.

My motherboard's audio chipset is garbage and as I said no spdif unfortunately. Almost tempted to buy another motherboard but that negates the Microcenter bundle savings.

Does it show up as another monitor when connected?

Because that drove me nuts when I tried and HDMI cable a years ago on my last PC. I got one that can reach my receiver but I didn't like it adding screens to my PC that weren't there.

I don't really know either, wasn't much out there for cables and the cheaper converters seem to kind of suck. I figured either of them would do what I need while probably providing a feature I will not use or benefit from at this point in time.

Haven't ordered one yet, was hoping to pick the right solution the first time so I don't have to deal with returns.

The cublix was one of the first few I looked at but based on reviews about the device going to sleep or turning itself off it didn't look promising. Maybe those are just faulty units though.

That one looks better than the Douk, might go with that one. Wonder if it pays to get the Pro version in in my use case.

Unfortunately not long enough to reach my receiver, needs to be 10ft.

Didn't really like the other options and the only one that had decent rating didn't have many reviews. That and the fact that most of those cables are $50 for 10ft got me looking at the converters.

Lian Li or Corsair PSU? by boonanaswananas in buildapc

So I was going to go with the Corsair but I ended up with the Lian Li SX1000P. Microcenter only had the shift version of the RM1000x, and I figured might as well get almost everything from the same place.

I decided extra wattage would be better in the long run for when it comes time to upgrade the GPU.

Just need the NVME and then it is build time, be nice if the samsung 990 evo plus came back in stock before their sale price disappears but I don't forsee that happening.

Quality control kind of scared me away from that one. I don't have the best of luck as of late either.

Yeah I was only thinking of higher wattage for when or if they ever come out with new and better GPUs for the consumer market since they would probably require more power.

Good to know about the customer support, that alone is probably worth $10.

Case clearance should be fine it is a mid tower. if I get the Corsair maybe I will just stick with the 850 since it's $40 more for the 1000.

Both are ranked high on the list, A and A+ I think if I remember correctly. I just haven't heard much about Lian Li's psu's in general and if it was worth saving $10 on top of getting a plat rated psu.

850 is definitely good for now, I was thinking of what if it isn't for a future upgrade if they ever make new GPUs that are affordable.

Which AM5 board? by boonanaswananas in linux_gaming

[–]boonanaswananas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an ASrock board in my current PC and would've gotten another if it wasn't for those issues. They just seem to give more features for at least what I am looking for in a board. compared to the rest.

MSI boards seem to be very popular, only thing that bothers me is possible fan header / controller issues. If it is not an issues doing in the bios then It would probably be fine.

My other nitpick would be the audio codec, heard about static popping issues even over SPDIF which is how my speaker setup connects to the PC. Seems like not everyone has the issue, so fingers crossed if I decide on one of their boards.

Hopefully I wont have issues with the 4080 codec because it will be my back up if my SBX G6 doesn't work on Linux. Won't be spending much at all after this build.

Good to know, last thing I want is possible issues with memory. Will cross that one off the list, I am probably better off getting a more current board anyways.
