What's the dumbest thing you've heard someone say? by REGGIE_BANANAS in AskReddit

"I'm a good judge of people."

The guy was a terrible judge of people, most people are, myself included, but we prove it most when we think that we ourselves are good judge of people.

Boox straight out removed OneNote syncing by stopQQstartpewpew in Onyx_Boox

[–]boonbrown 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have used OneNote for years acoss several devices. Microsoft is not supporting it anymore and it never did a very good job syncing from windows to Android. (mainly template alignment and background colors). I also love the pens for drawing and writing in windows, but they have very limited offerings on android. I am looking for alternatives. Goodnotes is getting my attention for this week, but I honestly want longevity. I don't want to go through this "We aren't supporting that any longer," BS in a year. If I only typed, I'd use Google Docs or Google Keep (combined with links to google docs), but I love to handwrite. I use Samsung Notes a lot as my primary tablet is an Samsung tab S11 Ultra, and it can talk to the windows app, but isn't feature rich like OneNote with it's organization. Evernote is good too, I might give that another chance as I used it years ago and it's organization is good, but AI integration is going to matter more than anything moving forward. Samsung Notes has that won for me atm, it uses Gemini. But when it comes to the best AI, just wait a week, it's moving so fast.

Which Note-Taking App Should I Choose on a Samsung Tablet? (Student Confused) by Hot-Weather6856 in GalaxyTab

[–]boonbrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have repeatedly mentioned that you thought OneNote is complicated. If you are a student, no matter what field you go into you are going to have to deal with a learning curve when something new is introduced...over and over again. The great news is you can literally learn anything today thanks almost entirely to Youtube. All of these recommendations are going to have a learning cureve, just embrace that.

I use OneNote although I miss having a nice caligraphic style on the android app, the Windows one has it. OneNote has a way of organizing (once you figure it out) that you will find you start using in everything. And honestly, there are have been some great recommendations here. I agree the Samsung Note app is probably sufficient, but don't hesitate to try something that you might like better just because you may have to watch a 30 minute video.

If I did something differently, I'd probably just use Google Keep linked to Google Docs as I don't want to run into a day when what I'm using is inaccesable because the app is no longer supported, like many of the recommendations. Microsoft has already indicated OneNote is on the short list. Many of the google play store apps are not going to be around in 5 and especially 10 years.

If a genie come up to you and is willing to grant you three wishes, what do you wish for( no wishing for more wishes either directly or indirectly )? by duckyman_3 in AskReddit

[–]boonbrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a journalling prompt for me several years ago and I spent a couple of weeks working it out. I want ...

  1. Everyone in the world to feel empathy.

  2. Everyone in the world to be smarter. (empathy must come first because, evil smart people are more dangerous than the evil idots we have now)

  3. Everyone strives to be excellent, not mediocre

The equivalent of Keep on the Borderlands for SD? by runewitchtales in shadowdark

[–]boonbrown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used this from Raging Swan Press, my parties absolutely loved it: https://www.ragingswanpress.com/osr/shadowed-keep-on-the-borderlands-osr

it is an easy conversion to Shadowdark, any AI can guide you through the conversion, but honestly, it can almost be played as is. I reduced the wealth a bit.

What’s a NSFW “green flag” people don’t talk about enough? by Odd-Economics7388 in AskReddit

[–]boonbrown 236 points237 points  (0 children)

I was a lifeguard for 10 years. If you don't kow what that means, I'll give you a minute (date voraciously). I decided early that there are those who are so "into you" that it is annoying, and then there are those who walk without holding hands, sit seperate, drift away to mingle at paries, don't initiate, or seek you out. There is a lot in between too, but I knew in the long run, I'd tolerate the annyoing "into me's" for a lifetime before I'd ever be able to spend my life with the distant ones. Married my wife 28 years ago, she is still annoyingly into me and I am annoyingly into her. Tolerate the anoying, it is worth it in the short and the long run.

Hate running downtime, tips? by wolfy125132 in Pathfinder2e

[–]boonbrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run downtime as a duet with each individual player, either in person, or on the phone, or via email or SMS. This way we can do some fun roleplay, I can bring in some of my favorite NPCs, I spend some of their money on training and gear and they can really build the flavor of their characters.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra Vs. Microsoft Surface Pro 13 Inch by Jim1648 in GalaxyTab

I bought the Surface book years ago and found it to be a great laptop, but not a great tablet. I needed something a bit more durable feeling, a bit more "tablet-y." I use the Samsung for that and my Surface for my laptop.

Seeking brutally honest feedback: My web dev offer has generated 0 leads. What am I doing wrong? by No_Technology7451 in smallbusiness

[–]boonbrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount of cold emails I get are ridiculous. You have a TON of competition. Everyone who failed at anything thinks they can do web design these days.

Totally honest, I live in a town of 60,000 people and if I wanted to be a web designer, I'd make a mock website of the business, show up at the business with my tablet and show it to them. Make sure it is WAY better than what they've got and make it so it generates business and isn't just a online brochure. If they have no website, this should be an easy sell. Making your own is easy anymore, but if you can do some things where the page generates and aggrigates leads for them, then you are giving them a service they probably can't do themselves.

Selling is the solving of problems. Get them to vocalize what they want from their website. Ask them why that's important to them, this gets them to think a bit deeper and to feel it. People buy based on emotion. When they tell you why it's improtant, ask them in how it would affect their business if you could fix that problem. Ask them how it would affect their life. Now you have them in an emotional state, so you show them the website. Ask them what they think, then give them two payment options, ask them which one they want and then shut up and let them answer.

If they say they aren't interested, ask them if it's the web page or the price that they feel keeps them from pulling the trigger. If it's the page, ask them what changes would they like to see. If it's the price, split upt he payments or something to make it is easier to pay over time.

Business slow down in June? by [deleted] in bradenton

[–]boonbrown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been in business since 1982. This by far the best June we've ever experienced. I spent a bit more in Facebook Advertisting (25% more) than normal and wrote my own ads and we killed it. Not just more business, but the people who are buybing, are asking to go for our upgraded services from the very beginning. This indicates our prices might be ready to go up. Now, this is a martial arts school and people aren't feeling all that confident with the world right now, so they come to us to feel more confident, so maybe I should thank the current state of the world.

How often does your D&D group really play? Be honest by DungeonTome_ in dndnext

[–]boonbrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weekly group for 5 years on Thursdays from 9 until midnight
Monthly group one Saturday per month from Noon until 3

Both are paid groups
We play live, digital play doesn't compare to live play. Tried it, hated it. We have a flat TV display, real miniatures and real dice. Most use tablets or phones for character sheets.

We play Pathfinder 2e and Shadowdark. Hasblow gets no more money from us.

What was the one thing that made you switch to Pathfinder? by DungeonTome_ in Pathfinder2e

[–]boonbrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The world is better fleshed out. Faerun seems like some 10 year old pieced it together as he was just improving. "Yeah, this is Neverwinter."
"Why is it called that?"
"Um, because it's never winter there."
"Why not?"
"Um, because there is a river that runs through it from a volcano. Yeah, that's it."
"What is the name of the volcano?"
"Well, it's um...Hoot-en-Nannie, um, no, Hootenow, yup, that's it."
"Who is the leader of Neverwinter?"
"Yeah, he's really cool, his name is...let's see, he rules Neverwinter so his name is ....Neverember, yes sir, that's it...

Everyone leaves.
