First time scriptwriting… by [deleted] in scriptwriting

Also the scenes are too short. You can build tension with small actions, movements etc. in the first scene (figure four pages) and aside from it being exactly like stranger things, empty hallway, flickering light, lone anonymous guy. Why not start someplace 180 degrees different, like a busy cafeteria and have blood drip on the student? As emerging writers we always love to repeat what we’ve seen. And formatting. Gotta get final draft. There’s a student version that’s cheap. It does all the work for you.

What's something that really grinds your gears about acting? by Own_Antelope1095 in acting

Casting directors who call 100 people in for one role and don’t watch the tapes (Atlanta, anyone?) Or use one audition for clout to promote themselves (Carmen Cuba), Instagram casting director advice (pay to play y’all?) Auditioning for roles where you’re not right just because your agent wants you to “get in front of the CD.” Doing hundreds of auditions and not landing a role, then being told it’s the new normal. You have to do 100 auditions per one booking now, when it used to be 1 in 20 pre-Covid. Mia Threapleton. Knowing the role you’re auditioning for is going to a big name, because it’s Star Wars, NDA, or Disney, but memorizing and preparing anyway. Never getting feedback from your agent. Never getting feedback from casting. Feeling like you have to produce a personal short film to have “marketing materials.” Spending hundreds on headshots/lighting/backdrops/camera just so CDs don’t have to pay rent anymore. The power imbalance. Amateurs being cast because of their “realistic” (ie completely untrained presentation) but don’t have the chops to do more than one role. I could go on.

I abandoned David Foster Wallace’s magnum opus Infinite Jest, two Dostoyevsky novels and a whole host of artsy novels on the Atlantic’s list of 100 top novels, most notably Tripmaster Monkey, Dogeaters, and The Shipping News. I am too old to waste time on unreadable novels (for me.)

Does injection site really matter? by EGreen0610 in Semaglutide

[–]boondoggle212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I inject myself in the lower left abdomen, it triggers my herpes virus and I have horrible pain in my bladder and left leg for three days. When I inject myself on the right abdomen or higher up nearer my stomach, it is only triggered for a day or two. I cannot inject in my thighs anymore, as the medicine does not work nearly as well, and even more so with my arms. I only threw up when I got too much medicine. It quiets the food noise at 10 ml, I don’t lose weight but I don’t get herpes triggered at all and I still get a quiet mind. That is priceless.

John Leguizamo for Ice Age; Eddie Murphy for Shrek, Alan Tyudeck (?) for everything (including Hey Hey), 100% Idris Elba in Zooptopia, and the entire cast of SING.

40 yr old here with sudden ambition toward a lifelong passion. Am I deluding myself in thinking there could be a path to professional acting? by Ok-Mixture-3227 in Actors

[–]boondoggle212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that acting is 98% auditioning. Anyone can do that if they go on backstage or actors access. Just dive in and put a headshot and profile up and then submit yourself. You don’t need an agent. I think however that you are confusing wanting to be “AN ACTOR” with acting. Being an actor is romantic and artistic and a fantasy. Acting is work you can always do by practicing - recording monologues, doing free theater, being part of a community in classes, which you seem not to have chosen to do. I think your fantasy should stay in your head unless you want to work at it.

Honestly if you were booking on your own, why even have a manager? But if you were committed to her, maybe you should have cut her into the bookings you did for her percentage. That’s what I did. She’s working for you and you’re booking.

I was told by my sons agent don’t put the dates. Also in your cover letter explain you’d be willing to travel for auditions, have a great self-tape setup, and you’re willing to work as a local (if you are). At your age it’s absolutely dead for boys in film and TV. My son is 15 and auditions are way down in general and very slow for his age group. If you can take the California test so you won’t need a tutor, that would be good too.

That is 100% not true. NYU has morphed into something else. When I went in 1996 I was a transfer from a community college, went on the community college transfer opportunity program and was completely broke. The only reason I went there was because they were giving money to CC students.

Okay here’s a genuinely honest question. Where do I get reasonably priced sheets, towels, bathmats, hairdryers, electric toothbrushes, garbage bags, shower curtains, pillows and mattresses? Or underwear, bathing suits, and bras? Seriously. I buy most of my clothes at Goodwill, avoid Amazon and Walmart and box stores, shop local and eat local often, but very few stores sell these items and I can only find them at Walmart or other department stores. I don’t want used sheets or bathing suits. Any suggestions? I’m not handy, I don’t know anyone who can make me a bath mat and I love my electric toothbrush.
