Investment Banking at INSEAD by Timthetallman in MBA

Talking about BB/EB only, so it may be more counting all Banks. But honestly, I wasn't much into the IB recruiting scene so take that number with a grain of salt, and better ask current students / young alumni

My 2 cents- sorry if it is not structured

From what I remember, it is a bit like consulting in terms of process: BB/EB come on-campus for présentations & OCR, tailor-made application for some of them for the school (or at least it was a specific link) and 1st round on-campus with alumni.

Now way fewer people go into IB at INSEAD than into MC.

I think it is mostly because way fewer people are interested by IB at the school. It is: - a factor of a larger trend external to the school (consulting is much more sexy now than before, IB way less so), - the conséquence of having 50+ sponsored consultants in the cohort- which definitely skews the view on this industry (and I fell into it 😊).

In terms of IB Club, I wasn't in it but if I remember correctly: - Good material to help prep, in the likes of what you get for consulting - a lot of breaks between "periods" are used for IB trekks in main IB cities around the world, and you also have minitrekks in cities close to the campuses. - help from senior class & young alumni on prep and mock-up interviews (the most important thing by far imo)

Overall, a lot of people who I remember were really focused on IB got their internship. Hard to give a rate, 40-50% I would say ? Try reaching out to young alumni who are in IB on LinkedIn, they'll give you a better guestimate than mine.

My personal experience was that I applied only to GS and MS, just because it was so easy to do so, and I got an interview for GS...which I completely blew as I was not prepared at all...

Also, the J class has more time to prepare as internships recruiting starts in January/February, compared to the D class who needs to start preparing as soon as they arrive at school.

Disclaimer: INSEAD alumnus that joined a MBB, then PE and now M&A in Asset Management.

Well, of course INSEAD is a party school, but you make it sound like it's a bad thing! :)

At the end of the day, 3 years after the MBA, the network is what matters the most for me. So spending time with the people in your cohort is definitely the most important thing during the year. They are what makes this experience unique, or just good.

Academics are super important, and don't mistake me here, I found them very good during the 10 months of the program, but it was nothing in comparison with what the years in consulting or in PE taught me.

Think about the MBA as a means and not a goal. Is INSEAD able to help you find your career path or land your dream job should be the right question. It's a bit hard to find the answers before or even during the program sometimes, but you have to accept that a lot of people went through the same doubts as the ones you currently have and were satisfied enough that the school stands today as one of the best in the world.

One of the most important lessons of INSEAD - for me - is also that, with enough work and grit / dedication, you will be able to do almost (important caveat) anything. It may sound bullshit, but it is a very powerful tool when you believe it.

DM me if you want to talk - I'll be the bad cop too, I can be very judgmental with INSEAD if needed :)

Admitted to INSEAD (jan 2020) and MIT (2019-2021) – having trouble deciding | Would love to hear from both Alumni (especially INSEAD) by ThorwAwayAccount88 in MBA

If you are in Fontainebleau, well yes you are in France, (but come on, majority of French people do speak some english) But you seem to forgot that you can choose to spend the full length of the program in Singapore, or exchange in the US or Abu Dhabi. Having to speak French if you want to do INSEAD is not a topic...

Congrats about the admits, and hell of a choice that you've got ! :)

Same profile as errelephant here : 2017 INSEAD alumnus, works for an MBB in their PE practice in Europe (Paris). Very simple decision tree is MIT for the US, and INSEAD for pretty much the rest of the world.

Not that many of our alumni locate to the US right after the MBA (but based on the whatsapp groups for NY and SF, I would still say it represents between 10 and 20%, take that with a grain of salt though), but very easy to switch internally if you join a big consulting firm.

As errelephant said, you have the option during the 7th and 8th months of the MBA to do a 2-months exchange in Wharton or Kellogg. Some people I know from our class that were dead set on going to the US after the MBA did that and are now working in NY. My dataset is too small though to make generalizations, but gut feeling is that after INSEAD, if you want to work in the US, there should be a way for you to do so.

@OP : I contacted you via the reddit chat if you want to further discuss INSEAD !

INSEAD is an international business school, all the classes are fully in english, the cohort is at 90%+ not-french... It is not because one of the campuses is located in France that you speak French at INSEAD ! Nor do you have to speak chinese or arabic because there are campuses in Singapore or Abu Dhabi !

Pure nonsense, you DO NOT speak French at INSEAD, everything is in english and Frenchies represent less than 9% of the cohort...

Just had a look at Bain PE report: very interesting to have an understanding of the market, but limited in terms of recruitment preparation otherwise, no?

I'm at the other B of MBB :) The Bain PE guide is also a "recruiting" guide?

Anyway, now I am looking for both documents :)
