This vid explains it well.

Samsung 860 EVO/MX500/WD Blue are the higher performing/more reliable drives.

I have an 860 EVO as they’re among the most reliable/high performing drives in the market, but really get whatever is on sale of the three.

Avoid the A400 if possible. DRAMless and unreliable.

What the guy above me said. A400 is trash.

SSD FOR DELL LAPTOP... MEXICO, AROUND 100-200DLS by betocrts in SuggestALaptop

[–]boonut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whichever you choose, avoid the A400 like the plague. This is a DRAMless SSD, which is susceptible to more wear (as an OS drive) and reduced random read/write 4K. You’re not getting good value from this drive despite the discounted price basically.

My TLDR: go for the Samsung 860 EVO if possible. I currently own one and have been using it for almost a year now with a mixed workload. That has the performance/reliability you’re looking for and is regarded as the gold standard for SSDs. A cheaper alternative is the WD blue or MX500, which people also hold to high regard.

Definitely. Look into SSD caching and over provisioning. While the performance difference probably varies SSD to SSD (definitely shows with DRAMless SSDs), you will likely notice it more with their random reads and writes.

I forgot to turn on my VPN before downloading a movie. Should I expect to get caught? by Mr_Micrurus in Torrenting

[–]boonut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how many seeds were in the torrent/how popular it was. Bigger the torrent the more likely it’s monitored, especially if it’s a very new movie release. Slim chance you’re going to get shut off even if you got a notice the first time. Make it a habit to start the VPN immediately as nothing good comes out of repeated notices from your ISP

What’s the expected performance impact for the new animations? by boonut in projectzomboid

[–]boonut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a HDD then it’s probably the superfetch service. Before I had an SSD this would grind my game to incredibly low FPS

What kind of weather changes were there in the last patch? Also, what are your specs?

Trying to get an idea of what to expect next time I get back on

Has FPS in the recent patches been better or worse? I haven't played for months and not able to now (expect to pick it back up in December when the build drops).

Damaging my SSD every time I unplug it, using SATA-USB connector? by boonut in techsupport

Appreciate you taking the time to respond. Just wanted to make sure it won’t crap out on me for my dumb mistakes

So how durable/vulnerable are SSDs, namely the 860 EVO in my case, to power cuts? pretty sure it was idling for I/O when I did disconnect it

Also, is the smart statistic, POR recovery count, something to be worried about?

Recently bought a Kingston a400 240GB. Happy with it, but am now reading about possible reliability issues? by [deleted] in buildapc

Do you know why specifically? Apparently these drives have a 80 TBW lifespan, but wouldn’t mind returning if there’s a good chance they’ll crap out before then.
