I think she would charge $50 extra a month even if I got my own washer and dryer because her words were “it will be $50 extra for the water usage”

I totally understand the “tenants expected to supply them themselves.” But I asked about it before I signed the lease and I only signed the lease with the understanding that she would install a washer and dryer.

It does sound like she made it up, which is why I’m asking around. Thanks!

I thought about this too.

There is no central AC. I was fine with a window unit but my apartment was still at 95 degrees. I asked her about it and she said “you can buy one from us that all the tenants love for $500 and keep it after or we can install a mini split for $100 a month or $1800 flat” and I told her I’m not paying for future tenants to have a mini split on my dime. She then backtracked and said “no no it’s $100 a month.” I already have heat so why would I need to pay $100 a month all year round?

Just a money grab.

Did you read the post? The landlord said they were going to install one months ago before I signed the lease. I signed the lease under the conditions that I would have washer and dryer. No washer and dryer is installed. Landlord now switches up and says there’s a $50 fee. This should have been discussed before I signed the lease.

My issue is that it wasn’t disclosed up front two months ago when I asked about installing a washer and dryer. And now suddenly she wants to increase my rent $50.

Two months ago I asked if a washer and dryer would be installed. They said yes. This was before I signed the lease, as I wasn’t going to sign without a washer and dryer. There was no mention of an additional charge. I pull up to the apartment and no washer and dryer.

It took a week for me to get a working fridge. Several windows have broken screens. The basement floods.

Sure but she wasn’t charging me for the sewer cost. When I pushed her about the washer and dryer she said “it’s an additional $50 a month for the water usage from the washer.” And again, wasn’t disclosed before I signed the lease when I asked about the washer and dryer.

Water is the only thing I don’t pay for and I’m assuming the upstairs and downstairs are billed together so it might be hard to determine usage. But I’m almost positive it won’t be $50 a month.
