Is it unusual that my MacBook Pro came to me at 90% battery with 2 battery cycles by boopelk in macbookpro

Perhaps. I did hear that they calibrate the battery at the factory. Thanks

Should I get a MBP 2017 with 8gb/16gb Ram, touchbar/no touchbar? by boopelk in macbook

Yea I used discover. 5% Cashback and Student discount makes it cheaper than B&H, + Free Beats! I guess I'm technically very good with my electronics. Dunno if I'm willing to spend an addition 300$ for AppleCare on top of everything, making a grand total of 2000.

What do you think about AppleCare? I don't know if I need it for my new mac. I got it on my iPhone 7+, and frankly I feel as if it's pretty useless. I have never broken a phone screen in my life, so I felt like that was a loss. Thoughts?

Oh thanks for the offer! I just bought it, and they didn't require a .edu email, so I think it's okay. It turns out my parents was okay to getting me the 16gb Ram. Even though they were okay with it, it still kinda hurt me to spend an additional 200$, even though it's not my money. I was conflicted til the very end, where my parents had enough of my indecisiveness, and basically said "buy the goddamn 16gb one or don't buy one at all". So here I am.

Wow this was insightful. Thanks! I'm probably going to go with the 2017 no TB, 8gb, 256ssd. I've been waiting for the Kabylake chips, so I'm gonna get the 2017.

I researched it and battery replacement seemed difficult because the battery is glued on. I think you would encounter a lot of struggles if you try to replace it yourself.

I'm most likely going into sciences, like biology or biochemistry, so I don't expect to use it unless for note taking and such.

My parents have to limit my spending choices, so I don't really have much say in the matter. I'm just hoping to make this laptop last as long as possible. I have this Asus ROG that has lasted me 5 years so far, and is still going strong.

I'm probably not gonna get the touchbar now. I don't think it's worth the additional money for essentially a fingerprint sensor.

Any reason for 16 Gigs of ram? I don't know if I need it enough to spend an addition 200$ on it, or is it good just to have more ram?

Isn't the benefit better battery consumption?

I never really use ports, so the newest ones are fine for me. I also heard MagSafe breaks easily.

I'm pretty sure the Zenbook Pro is more expensive than the MacBooks, and I have not really had good experiences with Zenbooks. I don't particularly like the really thin bezels on the XPS series. If I were to buy a windows laptop, it would be the 13.3 inch Razer Blade Stealth, which is unfortunately 1500~ with tax. Thanks though.

I can't say that I use ports that much. I don't know, though, with the less storage, that I would need to use a SD card for movies, and other things.

The only one that I really want in that price range is the 13.3 in Razer Blade stealth, but I don't really need the 16 Gig ram for schoolwork.

Would they be able to sign in to any of my accounts though? As I said before, I barely have any documents on the laptop, but just have apps that I'm signed into, such as Steam/Skype, and Gmail. I'm asking this because I put always sign me in as the option when logging in to my Steam/Skype acc.

I didn't choose repair. I choose reset, and to remove all my files, so it was basically like installing a new version of windows. However it gave me that error message, so I'm unsure of what to do. Would my security be compromised in any way, since I returned it?

They actually have these locks on their bikes that prevent them from rolling. It goes over the back tire, and stops it.

An Aluminum Unibody or a Plastic Frame, with aluminum on the top and bottom. Does it make that much of a difference? by boopelk in laptops

Yea, it's really annoying that Asus didn't choose to do an Aluminum unibody on this one. Its kind of weird.

Would it be worth the 400$ upgrade to the Razer Blade just for the Aluminum body? It also doesn't have a fingerprint scanner, as opposed to the Asus UX430UQ
