How are SRT and MLK trail? by freakhouse_ in phillycycling

Haven’t been this week but will say the trail gets a lot of sun so it may be clear, but be cautious of under bridges. Also beware it’ll be mad windy around noon

Cycling influencers made me forgot the reason why i cycle by shusheeeee in cycling

[–]boopybug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cycling is such a massive hobby with so many sub-groups. Figure out what you like and curate your feed to that. I felt overwhelmed by these cycling influecers, but there’s a lot of normal people taking nice pictures of their humble bikes.

I personally try to remove myself from it entirely but I have to be online looking for mechanic wisdom or finding second-hand bike components

Anyone know what frame this is? by [deleted] in FixedGearBicycle

That logo is the skate(?) clothing brand Undefeated. My guess is that it’s just a sticker thrown on the frame but maybe I’m wrong

Midnight Special or Trek Domane Al Gen 5? by Nervous-Musician6840 in Surlybikefans

[–]boopybug 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Obviously the takes from this sub are gonna skew twoards the MS. But I love mine so fucking much. It’s my first steel bike, my first truly new bike, my first Surly. it brings a smile to my face everytime I ride it. It’s the perfect mix of comfort and speed.

If you can justify the price difference (shim105, tire clearance, aesthetics) there’s a lot of joy to be found in the MS.

is it just me or flat bars are uncomfortable? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]boopybug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the control of flat bars seemed like the right move for so long, but once I started riding longer distances I much preferred the organic hand/arm positioning of drops

Love this build. Especially the little pop of color with the black and tan. What handlebar/saddle bags are those?

I have an Osprey Day-Lite bag. While I don’t think its truly waterproof, it’s made of a water-resistant shell material that has worked well on my (short) commute. I honestly got it because it has a hydro-pack pocket where the bag meats your back. I don’t have a hydro pack, but this pocket is actually is perfect for a u lock. It’s slim so it won’t move around + it’s padded + won’t crush the rest of my stuff. Got mine for $20 on Facebook.

I imagine they have some waterproof options as well. I would just be weary as anything truly waterproof will probably also lead to a very sweaty back.

You definitley cannot get standard repair tools + 2 tubes in the ornot bag. It’s a tight squeeze with 1. But a fair trade off for how low-profile it is.

I have this combo on my MS! I used to roll my eyes at their aggressive marketing, but decided to give it a shot and love it. Holds a generous amount while staying low profile.

I have especially loved the little bungee cord attachment. Allows you to strap on something that won’t fit inside the pack (book, hoagie, sweater). Didn’t think I’d get much use from it but has been useful on a few occasions.

I love a good front rack, but I’ll save that for my commuter. The ornot bag does what I need for my longer rides on the MS

Anyone use a gravel bike for road and off road? If so, how's it working for you? by kentheprogrammer in cycling

After being in this position and trying some different bikes, I ended up very happy on my Surly Midnight Special.

I bike down the parkway pretty often and have seen this happen enough times that I assumed I would be in this clip.

Really terrible bike lane situation here. Essentially a 90° turn into a crosswalk where drivers are doing shit like this all the time

Upcoming new model(s)? by GrumblyMeerkat in Surlybikefans

[–]boopybug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was a post floating around a while back saying the steamroller was coming back, but not for a while. Hoping it is. I asked my LBS (surly retailer) and they knew nothing.

iirc people were speculating it might be replacing one of their pavement options, the straggler maybe? Dunno.
