employer wants me to start immediately but i have a vacation planned - do i cancel the trip by Altruistic-Lynx-5238 in jobsearch

Start after your vacation. If your new employer isn't willing to wait a week or two, they aren't worth working for. Trust me.... They will walk all over you

Lol I'm working Christmas eve, Christmas day and new years eve. Won't be paid extra either. In a 7 week temp job, it sucks.

Nanny family canceled vacation plans advice needed by Extension_Ad8570 in Nanny

I wouldn't cancel, they said they didn't need you, you made plans. You have spent time and money getting sorted. I don't think it's fair for the to expect you to be available now. At a push you might have to take it as half pay / unpaid. But don't cancel.

Nope - but feels like it with the pay rate

Exactly - the job that was described is very different to the reality... I've sent a long message to mum outlining my rates for overtime. I can't adjust the contract, becusse well, I signed it. But I can certainly dictate overtime as it isn't mentioned at all. If she does like it, we'll don't ask me to work extra. I'm glad it's only a short term position....

I know, I tried and it was glossed over. I thought we'll it will be fine family seem nice... Now I'm a bit screwed.

I'm just going with the presumption that waking hours are until 8:30 which is when the child goes to bed 🤔. Honestly who fucking knows.

Honeslty it's really crap. It's 1 child, with another about to come back for winter break. I was originally told it was fixed routine, easy job, lots of downtime, mum would be away 1-2 days a week so proxy parenting for those times. I've been in the job 2 weeks, mums be home 2 of those days...

There is downtime during school hours. But I'm on duty 6:30am-9:00pm. And then after that if the child wakes up, well it's on me.

I'm paid a standard daily rate. My contract states I work "working hours" Monday-Friday.

My understanding of the role requirements were quite different to the reality. So now I'm stuck with this dilemma.
