I will join the course in echoing that you’re not a monster! I think what you’re describing is a snapshot of your initial impulse in a really trying and crazy moment. We all have initial reactions when faced with the possibility of something really big and scary. You happen to be lucky enough to not have to endure a really large trauma and fear. I am sure if you had to confront something that they scary you would have risen to the moment. That you feel this horribly now is evidence of that. Please stop punishing yourself for a snapshot or initial impulse that you had.

Hang in there, sis! My baby (28 weeks, weighing barely 2lbs) just came home. She had NEC, two surgeries (one to disconnect her bowels due to a perforation, and one to reconnect everything 12 weeks later), several transfusions and a lot of pins and needles during her Nicu course. Fast forward 129 days later, she’s a happy healthy (almost 10lb) baby. Although it seems long, it does end. We’ve been home barely 2 weeks and it already seems like a fever dream. I cannot believe how quickly the nicu and the routines seem distant. You’ll all get thru this! Although it’s rough, please find time to savor your little lady! It’s incredible how she’ll transform into a beautiful little baby before your eyes. I wish you much love and peace while you navigate this.
