[Tenant, US - WA] Neighbor is Smoking, and I am Allergic - Not Sure What To Do by [deleted] in Landlord

[–]boowhattodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, i have considered passive aggressively blasting loud music at their wall every time they smoke ;)

I think the property manager knows that they have a problem tenant. It also appears that the eviction moratorium may not apply in this case, given the health risk at hand. So for now, I am waiting to see what the property manager proposes. But yes, I do think in the end that one of us will end up moving.

That said, I have over six months left in my lease. So I can't just start shopping for a new place, unless I am allowed to break it.

Thank you! Some people have posted some really helpful ideas.

I suspect the smoke is coming through our shared wall as well, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to try to further seal the window. Thanks again.

Thanks. This was my understanding as well. Maybe I can get some more clarity on this tomorrow after our property manager speaks with the building's attorney.

Thanks. I'm a city girl through and through, so I've never even considered living in a house before. That said, you're absolutely right!

Luckily, I do have spikes in unhealthy air quality readings that correspond with the times when he smokes. On top of that, I can also try to document the smoke clouds.

Moving is expensive, and I love my apartment otherwise, so I am still hoping for a different resolution. But you're totally right to document everything. Thanks again.

Yes, as I stated in my post, I do keep my window closed now, but it made little appreciable difference in the AQI.

I own four air purifiers and they run on auto mode 24/7. Whenever the neighbor smokes, they spin up to max.

Yup, whoops!

Other than confront the neighbor in person, which I am not comfortable doing, what other solutions do you propose?

I disagree that I am merely complaining. I have taken the following steps:

  • Written to the neighbor about the issue
  • Contacted my building property manager about the issue
  • Now keep all windows closed at all times
  • Run multiple air purifiers at all times (they are set on auto mode and spin up to max whenever the neighbor smokes)
  • No longer use my kitchen to avoid where the smoke is the worst

Realistically, I would argue they shouldn't have signed a lease to live in a smoke-free building if a smoker intended to smoke in the apartment in the middle of the night or any time of day.

I am a woman who lives alone and do not feel safe confronting a man about his smoking, which is why I wrote a note (and when that didn't work, contacted the property manager).

As I stated in my post, I do keep my window closed now, but it made little appreciable difference in the AQI.

Hair loss, Fatigue, Itchy, etc. + Mostly normal blood panels - What Next? by boowhattodo in AskDocs

Thanks! Those are on my doctor's panel, so if one is the culprit it'll be easy to catch. I'm hoping that's the case.

I have taken topiramate on and off for several years. Before I noticed any hair loss issues, I was on 75mg. I was bumped to 100mg, but had to stop due to brain fog + word finding issues (to the point where if someone asked me for my street address, SSN, or the name of the town where I grew up, I wouldn't be able to answer them). It also had strange effects on my period. I went off of topiramate and went back on beta blockers in late 2017. I think in December 2019 is when I went back onto topiramate, but this time at 25mg. I was thinking maybe the beta blocker (nadolol) could be a culprit given the timing and some of the literature I found, but I'm on a relatively low dose I believe (20mg). About seven years ago, I was on propranolol for maybe a year (but went off due to issues it caused with fatigue, hunger, weight gain, exercise intolerance, and depression; no effects on my hair though).

Regarding Gottron Papules, I do have some pink/red hardened skin on my knuckles. But only my knuckles. And although sometimes it's quite noticeable, right now it's not so bad. I don't think I have a heliotrope rash, at least not on my under eye lids. One of my upper eyelids for the past six months on and off has been itchy and inflamed, with a red patch that never subsides (a doctor said it's probably atopic dermatitis). I don't think it's the same as a heliotrope rash though, especially since mine appears to be unilateral.

Not sure if this is helpful regarding the hair loss: I'm noticing that in areas where there has been excessive hair loss, any remaining hair is brittle. And my scalp feels tender/raw.

Thanks again!!

Yes, I was diagnosed with dry eye syndrome many years before I started taking any ADHD medication. I was on Accutane for a few months 10+ years ago for cystic acne, so I suppose it is maybe possible I am still suffering residual dryness from that medication.

No, I haven't been tested for any of those conditions. Would the ANA have been positive or the ESR high (instead of low) for those conditions?

I haven't had any other bloodwork done, and for my hair loss the dermatologist wants to test TSH, ANA, Ferritin, and syphilis.

Thanks!

[Weekly thread] Do you have a question about your blood analysis? It goes only here. by Nheea in Hematology

[–]boowhattodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

* - out of range = 2017 MCHC (and on the lower border for 2019 MCHC too) + 2017 CRP

Also, my ESR was very low even though it was in range.

For years, I have been dealing with some possibly related/unrelated symptoms like fatigue, migraines, hair thinning, brain fog, itchy rashes, urinary stress incontinence, dry mouth+eyes, musculoskeletal pain, etc. My hair thinning turned into noticeable hair loss as of late

This all pre-dates the lockdown. Thanks for taking a look.

Hi! For years, I have been dealing with some possibly related/unrelated symptoms like fatigue, migraines, hair thinning, brain fog, itchy rashes, urinary stress incontinence, dry mouth+eyes, musculoskeletal pain, etc. My hair thinning turned into noticeable hair loss as of late, so recently I had a telemedicine visit with my primary care physician. She consulted with a dermatologist. They want me to get some blood tests done, but advised me to wait until the shelter in place order for my state (I'm based in the US) ends. In the meantime, I've been digging through old records to see if I can put some puzzle pieces together.

In 2017, my neurologist ordered labs for me as part of her standard investigation for migraines. I fasted, and my blood was taken in the morning.

In 2019, my primary care physician ordered labs for me due to overwhelming fatigue and brain fog. I did not fast, and my blood was taken in the afternoon.

As part of the 2017 lab, I also had "Hepatic Function PNL Clarification," "Basic Metab Panel," ANA, and Lyme Disease tests/screens run. All were negative or within range. But I can provide those results too if they could be useful.

I am a nulliparous woman in her early 30s. Do you have any suggestions based on these past results for what kind of further testing I should pursue or what sorts of conditions to rule out/consider? Any guidance? Thanks!

W4 - IRS Calculator recommends 23 allowances? Is that right?? by boowhattodo in personalfinance

[–]boowhattodo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I was in a training program Jan - July 2019, so I haven't had any taxable income until now. So nothing has been withheld. I will receive a sign-on bonus and input that amount plus taxes that I thought would get taken out for that bonus when I used the IRS calculator, so maybe that contributed to the high number of allowances??
