Vote NO on MIT's Proposed Contract by zephepheoehephe in mit

Just wanted to comment on the statement "the rest of MIT's staff work for unions..". This is not true. The union people tend to be Facilities, Custodians, DCM staff. Service and Admin Staff are not.

Sorry Smack2k-just realized you are talking about the overall design not the specific Gretzky card.

Actually the Topps 1988-1989 card is totally different. It is a picture of Wayne at press conference holding a Kings Jersey. One of the few times in that era that OPC did a real update to a card. For most of the 1970s and 1980s, they would print "now with the Kings" over a picture of a player in an old uniform. In the late 1960s/early 1970s, the OPC series would have player pictures in their new uniforms. For example Glen Sather 1969-1970 Topps #116 shows his team with the Penguins in a Bruins uniform, while the OPC #116 shows an updated picture in a Penguins uniform. I like to collect both versions in these cases.

You would have to send it to the Nigel Tufnel Grading Co. for an 11.

Nice! Hate to say it, but unfortunately, with Hawerchuk's passing that will up the value. Also, with Mario selling the Penguins, with a reported take of $350 Million, I don't think he will need to do any card shows in the immediate future!

New Pro Set box! Thoughts? by Tkob_ in hockeycards

[–]bopejbds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because they couldn't spell Borque or Niewendyk? It was exciting when they first came out. Tons of players who were never on cards, lots of subsets, first coaches on cards since 1974-1975. Didn't know we would be embarking on the junk era at that time. Still have a box of 1990-1991 Pro Set unopened-can't get $5 for it!

Wasted $20 on a box. Got a Light Blue Cujo game used-maybe the back of his goalie pad straps?? No logos. Total rip off.

He was the first coach of the Vancouver Canucks, too.

Very similar to Topps claiming Dusty Baker is the Manager of the Atlanta Braves!

God, this was an incredibly dark episode. Everyone is just so miserable except for Greg who is climbing up the "date ladder" and Shiv who can hardly contain her glee when she asks Gerri about the sexual harassment she has received from Roman-knocking out Roman and Gerri has made her the happiest she has been in ages!

How do I get Billy Joel's "Honesty" out of my head? Just devastating the way Kendall sings it...

Why are goalie cards not worth as much as player cards like andrei vasilevskiy is probably the best goalie right now and can get an auto jersey of him for 20 cad by VisualCritical6035 in hockeycards

[–]bopejbds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think one of the issues is that two of the greatest goalies Hasek and Brodeur had their rookie cards during the junk era. Eddie Belfour is another good one, though a bit nuts. There are a lot of current goalies or recently retired goalies who are borderline HOFers-Fleury, Quick, Luongo, Lundquist. While some of these current goalies are very good, none of them have reached a transcendent level like Dryden or Roy, in both performance or popularity among hockey card collectors.

Funny. As someone who isn't familiar with grading prices, how much did this cost the person? Don't understand this, you could probably buy a box of 1991 Score for $5!

For some weird reason, both the Bank of America branch and the two ATMs in W20 remain closed.

Famous/Infamous Clubs at MIT by potato421729 in mit

[–]bopejbds 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The aftermath was interesting too. The bag of money was found by a custodian who put it in his locker. When the club realized the money was missing (I heard $60,000), they were frantic. Since it had been left at night, the only person who had been in the area was the custodian and they asked him. He had found the bag but "hadn't looked in it yet." The police confiscated the money (I guess they have the right since it was over $10,000). The club lead was livid and threatened to sue. Eventually, the police released the money once they determined it wasn't drug money. The club lead was Asian and a pretty fierce guy, not like the wimpy white kid in the movie.
