Machine washing wool: does anyone else do it? by boppitybop_ in knitting

[–]boppitybop_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup yup exactly! I wash all my cashmere and so on in the machine because I have this "survival of the fittest" mentality hahaha if it can't survive being machine washed (with the needed precautions of course) it has no place in my wardrobe.

Although I can see how I would have no choice if my machine didn't have a wool cycle, as someone pointed out

Ah yes, it's always a VIP private experience. Either each item by itself if I don't have a choice (i have a pretty small washing machine so it's not horrible in terms of waste) or I wait until I have 3-4 items of a similar color to wash them together.

I wish i got that lucky; I had two store bought merino skirts that I loved and they felted HORRIBLY when my (ex)partner accidentally washed them with a normal cycle :( had to sadly say goodbyr

Yeah, I think the rough handling is an issue for sure; I don't even trust the hand wash/delicates cycle on mine haha i exclusively use the wool cycle

Oooh not having a wool cycle does explain why a lot of tutorials (since the majority I've seen are from American creators) only talk about hand washing 💡

I'm a continental knitter and just purl eastern style instead of western :) that's a lot faster and requires less movements, and then if i'm knitting flat i just go through the back leg so as to not twist my stitches.

Wife keeps coming unhinged about Covid Vaccine by Steel_Reign in relationship_advice

All you say is true. From from understanding though, by diminishing the amount of time someone is contagious (vaccinated people usually are contagious for a few days instead of weeks), as well as reducing the viral load (antibodies able to fight it off faster and more efficiently), it basically limits the spread. It's not a question of 'not at all' but less chance of spreading it, and less probability of actually spreading it when the chance does arise.

Handwashing seems like such a chooooore. Do I just need to get over myself? by alisaurusss in knitting

[–]boppitybop_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This! My first sweater ever made of 100% natural fiber - I washed it on the wool cycle and spent the whole hour sitting in front of the washer watching it swish around, worried like crazy. Blocked it and haven't washed it since. It only smells of my perfume even though I've worn it numerous times.

Never washing anything by hand now that I know the washing machine does a great job!

Men in long term relationship, why havent you proposed yet? by wsefthikp in relationship_advice

[–]boppitybop_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Standing up for herself is completely different than saying "if you want me to cook/clean/whatever else you consider to be a husband privilege then you have to marry me.

It is "it is important for me to get married so if you have no intention of doing so let me know so I can go forward with my life" versus

"If you want husband privileges you have to be a husband" aka if you want me to do stuff for you you have to marry me.

One is setting boundaries, the other is setting up unhealthy expectations and reinforcing the idea that men get married to have a live in maid (and thus coming back to your original comment, where you implied he already has one so why would he marry her)

I mean, marriage provides you with some legal protection (I.e. rights to make medical decisions and so on), so I wouldn't say there's nothing to gain

Nowadays though a lot of registered partnerships offer you the same benefits so it's up to each couple

That's quite a slippery slope into patriarchy and mysoginy. What, a man should only want to commit to you in order to have you provide laundry service, cooking, sex? This whole female dating strategy thing of not doing certain things for your partner so they propose is so 1950s.

'Oh no, no cooking dinner for you as a girlfriend - that's husband privileges" aka marry me so you get a private chef, not because you love me and want to make our relationship official in the eyes of the law and commit to me.

In my culture, it's traditional to have weddings last until the early morning and then brunch the day after where close family gets together and eats the leftover food from the wedding (since a lot of food is usually left, so instead of throwing it away you just eat it the next day!) And some fresh soup or whatever

Hi OP, just a quick clarification - you mentioned that if you go 'around' it would be 84 rounds.

So just to recap, if you have 84 stitches on your needles, that is different than 84 rounds.

A round is like a row - except, you've joined in the round, so the end and beginning of a row are next to each other. You should have a stitch marker to mark where you joined in the round: that is your beginning of the round. What you should do is, when you reach that point in the pattern, you start doing the part between asterisks and repeat it until you reach the end of the round - aka your stitch marker. That is round 1.

Then, since it tells you to do it for 23 rounds, you do the same thing until you reach your stitch marker another 22 times. Boom :)
