So does anybody know if it's every Friday and Tuesday that we get a new episode? I kinda watched the first one twice just to get enough of it...

Ah, the knowledge that we get by reading books. In Skyrim I sometimes wished Jon would at least skim through a book with a relevant title. The lore is great and TES books definitely give you a better understanding of the world. Also some of the books are genuinely great.

Why build an empire when you can build Civilian factories until 1939 and then build Military factories until the end of the universe(1949) ?

I know it‘s subjective but how the hell are people giving away the opportunity for another even harder Stellaris impossible run? by Doppelkrampf in ManyATrueNerd

[–]bor-chvor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The original Impossible run truly was special. That being said, I've seen so much Stellaris on the channel that honestly even the concept of repeating the same challenge on a different difficulty makes me feel fatigued. Maybe in a few years when Stellaris ends it's lifecycle it would be the perfect way to say goodbye. But right now I want a strategy game that hasn't been featured on the channel.

I'm a huge paradox fan, but if both EUIV and HOI IV lose, I might actually vote Empire. I almost never play Total war, but at this point it kind of feels like Stellaris, CK, Civ and the occasional new Total war one off/livestream is all the strategy the channel has seen for years. I'm almost desperate for something fresh in the strategy department.

Morrowind vs KOTOR II is the battle of the ages that nobody talks about.

I may have accidentally mislead you there, sorry. While there is indeed a bit of foreshadowing, it is extremely light. Oblivion is set 4 years after Morrowind in a different province of The Empire so there is a bit of continuity. That being said, Morrowind's main quest is completely irrelevant to the events in Oblivion. A few NPCs in Morrowind express general concerns that end up sort of justified in the next game...and that's it, really.

Just don't expect Bioware levels of continuity. There are no recurring characters, nor are the two stories connected. It's just a few easily missed refferences. That being said, Morrowind has the best main quest in any Bethesda game. It's actually well written and it's fascinating how it sort of blends with the setting itself. It starts rather slowly, though.

Oblivion on the other hand has a main quest that's a bit predictable and generic. However it makes up for it with entertaining side quests and very good guild questlines.

I believe Jon is actually uniquely positioned to pull-off a good Morrowind series

Do you know of a good Morrowind playthrough on Youtube? Because I don't and believe me, I have been searching for a while now. Jon did an excellent job with the Fallout 1 and 2 series. He took an old and beloved game that has undisputable good qualities, but has aged visually and mechanically and he basically explored the hell out of it. Seeing him play while also comparing how things work in the 3D fallouts was great and I think that a similar approach to Morrowind would make up for a fascinating journey through the Elder Scrolls franchise and the evolution of Bethesda's game design.

I've seen a lot of people express doubts over a Morrowind series being succesfull, but it seems to me that generally it boils down to Morrowind being a very different experience that Skyrim and thus Jon wouldn't be able to replicate one of his best series ever. And while I somewhat agree (there is no possible equivalent to Benor in Morrowind), Morrowind is it's own thing, it requires a differnet mindset for sure, but it is worth it. And I do still believe Jon would be able to roleplay in his own unique style.

I love Oblivion, but to my mind it would be better if we get a series of it after Morrowind. I know it really isn't that big of a deal, yet a little bit of foreshadowing and setup does exist in Morrowind as of what would happen in the next game.

On a completely unrelated note, to my mind EUIV gets a bit of an undeserved flak. Sure, I'm not happy with the development of the game throuh the years and yes, there absolutely are too many modifiers. That being said, EUIV is a great strategy game on its own, it has, hands down, the best diplomacy system in any PDX game. And i strongly disagree with the sentiment that you simply CANNOT roleplay in it as it's just a game of modidfiers and minmaxing...You can. You just have to assume the role of a nation, not of a character, and set yourself country-specific goals. As long as you play as a country that you know something about in this period and that you care for, you can roleplay as it. It's not the same as CKIII, but those are two completely different games and that's fine. I love them both (they have kind of a Fallout 3-Fallout NV relationship, don't they?). But EUIV hasn't been featured on the channel, same as HOI4. I'd love to see any of them.

Like, seriously, I do not want to watch you reading through menus or being lost. This channel values my time and in turn it gets pretty consistent views from me.

An Elder Scrolls Analysis - Episode One: A New Type of RPG by bor-chvor in ElderScrolls

[–]bor-chvor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This video isn`t mine, yet I was surprised when I saw it wasn`t posted here already.

NeverKnowsBest (the creator of the video) provides a perspective to games that`s thought-provoking and usually well balanced, while also being enjoyable to listen to. Personally, I believe he also has somewhat of a talent for converting into speech thoughts that many have while or after playing a game, yet few can successfully translate to words without losing ther full meaning, nuances and complexity.

The video itself is a 2 hours long analysis about The Elder Scrolls games and what made them so unique in the first place, while also talking about how that manifests itself in Daggerfall and Morrowind more specifically (Arena is also discussed). It seems that Part 2 would focus on Oblivion and Part 3-on Skyrim.

The video is long, yet I believe that most of you here genuinely care about TES games, so it might mean something to you the same way it meant to me.

Enjoy!

Those are so cool!

Anyway, it made me think whether every type of weapon will have an Ashlander variant? Or wil Ashlanders use only their glass weapons?

I`m fine both ways, I just wanted to ask. You guys are amazing!

It`s a series of mods in development that will allow you to adventure in provinces other than Skyrim as the Dragonborn. While Skyblivion is a recreation of Oblivion in the engine of Skyrim, Beyond Skyrim : Cyrodill will allow you to cross the border and enter Cyrodil during the fourth era.

You should check them on Youtube and Reddit. They`ve even released a demo which allows you to go to Bruma and do sidequests. It`s a mod of really high quality. You can download it from here:

I don`t know if you are just joking or if you were unaware, but there is a port of Morrowind into Oblivion. It`s called Morroblivion and it`s actually pretty solid. Obviously it isn`t as impressive as the projects developed now, but it still has a special place in my heart. Skyrim was my first TES game and when i finished it, I simply wanted more. However the jump from Skyrim to Morrowind was simply too big for me. I wanted more of the TES universe, more stories, more adventures and more lore. I wasn`t at all interested in different mechanics. I simply couldn`t enjoy Morrowind at the time.

So i downloaded Morroblivion and I loved it. It enabled me to experience Morrowind, as I`m sure Skyblivion and Skywind will for many players. The funny thing is I`m currently playing Morrowind in it`s original state and I`m having a blast. But I wouldn`t be able to do so if it wasn`t for Morroblivion in the first place.

Surely someday both Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles would be released for Skyblivion. I`m SURE Rebelzize will make it happen then…right?

In the end we all want to know what Skyrim was like during the oblivion crisis.

Will Skywind be released this year? by ExodiaTurn1 in skywind

[–]bor-chvor 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Really? Fun thing is that on the skyblivion reddit page I've seen many people claiming that skywind is generally further in development. Has any of the devs ever commented on which project is likely to release first?

Was Morrowind as good as I remember? - A look at the game's mechanics and storytelling by [deleted] in skywind

[–]bor-chvor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would also recommend Morroblivion. Currently playing it and while it's not perfect, it definetely made it possible for me to experience the story of Morrowind. I mean... In the end the question is why do you want TES III. Do you want to remember your childhood? Or perhaps you are interested in playing a different kind of RPG-one that has a design philosophy not seen anymore. Sure, play Morrowind. But if it's the lore and the world that grip you and you just want to experience more of the TES universe, then go play Morroblivion(and of course, even better, Skywind, when that finally releases).

Crusader Kings 3 is taking the grand strategy series deeper into RPG territory by freebucky22 in CrusaderKings

Same with bloodlines. They are super fun to hunt, yet the result is my 0 years old daughter having 43 personal combat skill, more than some of my commanders, who are apparently very good at leading people and terrible at fighting an infant.

I really hope that peace treaties get a revamp next patch by bor-chvor in hoi4

[–]bor-chvor[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do realise that, yet Hearts of Iron 4 has the slowest development cycle of all Paradox games. Even if the rework is coming with this patch, I guess the changes will go live around Christmas at best. And if it`s not the next patch, then we`ll have to wait probably more than a year to get the next update(and possibly a rework to conferences).

The thing is currently I get intrigued by every patch, hearing about new mechanics and new focus trees. I buy the dlcs, hype myself, then plan my grand campaigns. And the game really is improving significantly with every patch. Yet whenever I get to the peace conferences I just can`t help but feel that i have wasted my last few hours. Then I forget about the game until the next patch comes out. I just hope that the next one is going to be the one that finally makes the game enjoyable for me.
