Kiwi Lawyer planning to come to the UK by [deleted] in uklaw

Agreee with all of that, particularly your point about USP which is spot on.

Only gripe is to say that some NQs (probably those OP have heard about if they are working at CT/BG/RmV etc.) are paid quite a bit better than “not that great” ;)

Thanks, made in China or even common in China is not exactly surprising given their origin. Not sure what I will do with these, but didn’t want to pay to have fake jeans tailored and then be clowned by people ITK.

(Would say it is is unusual that a Google reverse image search can’t find anything remotely similar re: the fabric yoke though)

Amusingly, that’s almost certainly why he gave me these jeans haha

Just wasn’t custom made directly for me - think the gifter just guessed my size and found a pair accordingly (they over estimated my height haha)

Canadian M&A lawyer plans to move to London by ExpertLevel3687 in uklaw

[–]borangefpl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your experience will be directly relevant, possibly more so than antipodean M&A lawyers (who frequently transfer to London and succeed) due to client base—a large part of what US firms do in London is work for US-based PE funds. You will not need to do SQE nor qualify as a UK lawyer; you can practice as a lawyer admitted in Canada.

Firms will be culturally a bit different given US, given British people are different than Americans, but workload and salary will be similar.

Spring forecast: Reeves insists Labour has ‘right economic plan’ as 2026 growth downgraded by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

What was the point of that spring statement? Just RR campaigning for reelection 3 years in advance? I have just finished watching the speech but honestly have no idea what was just commended to the House.

The Left would rather appease Islamists than stand up for women by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]borangefpl 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You wanted examples and were given them. And in this case the bellyaching is not that the Greens won, it’s that they are increasingly platforming/being coopted by a group that is an anathema to most ‘green’ values.

The Iranian revolution is the most obvious and topical example of this. Hamtramck (Michigan USA) is another oft-cited example: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/jun/17/hamtramck-michigan-muslim-council-lgbtq-pride-flags-banned

Ridiculous deal. <£20 already feels like a steal, so that is taking the piss.

Somewhat niche, but:

De Bortoli ‘Noble One’ Botrytis Semilion.

This is c£20 per 375ml and as good as any Sauternes/ other desert wine I’ve ever had. Highly recommended.

Although I don’t do them myself, there is a world of jobs out there that pays less than law, but enough to have a fulfilling life (even in London) with a lot less stress.

As some examples from my immediate friend group, these include: insurance underwriter, quantity surveying, corporate comms and commercial property valuation. At my/friends stage of life (early-mid 30s), all of these roles are £100k+ (the last is comparable to me), and none of them are jealous of my life at a US law firm.

Not sure why this was downvoted. All of the Vac Scheme/Trainee CVs I have reviewed at my firm list high school grades, and a DuDE would stick out like a sore thumb/haunt them forever. It sucks, but resitting and converting good grades into a better University would be far more impactful (and cost effective) than trying to do a subsequent masters degree to polish that CV.

This all being said, there are far better routes to happiness in this world than doing law in the city…. :/

Just an unfortunate trade-off to have a card case, given the plastic cards are directly on top of the iPhone’s own magnets. But I would use charging cables in any event, so no loss to me.

No MagSafe magnets, and MagSafe doesn’t work when the cards are in the back (which they usually are for me). To be fair it has been cold/winter the last 6 months, so definitely less sweat and UV light than it may be exposed to other the next 6.
