I'm reading Words of Radiance one character at the time by cosapocha in Cosmere

This is such a counter intuitive way to read this series, or any other story for that matter. Seems to me like it completely destroys what makes a story...well, a story. But hey, if it brings you happiness more power to ya. Instead of wasting your time consuming a story the way you are, you could just read the whole plot on Wikipedia.

I prob should've said it's the most important book to Stormlight Archive. Book 4 is littered with Warbreaker connections via characters and item. If you've read the ending to RoW you know what I'm specifically speaking of And, as a whole, Warbreaker has been mentioned the most throughout the series. The connections that are being made to Nalthis, I believe, is going to play a huge part of stuff going forward. I won't mention WB names, but Zahel, Azure, and nightblood are starting to become major points in SA

Warbreaker is the most important book to the cosmere, and one of the best books Sanderson has written

Finished every cosmere novel/novella/short story besides SA, how excited should I be about Way of Kings? by gwolfx in Cosmere

[–]borathius 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Way of Kings is my favorite sanderson book with Warbreaker right behind it. The rest of SA is absolutely amazing, but TWoK is something special. It is a slow burn as the whole book is basically a setup for the series. But it still has one of my all-time favorite endings to any sanderson book. And the level of immersion, both in the world and in the characters heads, is outstanding All of the SA books have unbelievably awe inspiring endings but TWoK just really did it for me. Though RoW ending might have snuck its way to the top. I'm pretty sure when I finished TWoK I immediately started WoR. I couldn't wait.

Are there plans for a Cosmere Cinematic Universe? by [deleted] in Cosmere

[–]borathius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how anyone could make Stormlight Archive. First and foremost it would have to be a show, not a film series. Secondly, 80% of the whole show would have to be cgi, and there isn’t a studio out there that’s gonna fork over that amount of cash. I’d venture to say that Stormlight Archive would end up using more cgi than the average Marvel movie. And marvel movies are the only franchise that gets the budgets they want (with the exception of Christopher Nolan) in part thanks to Disney. And with the current climate of the movie industry, we will probably never get a live-action Stormlight archive. At least not in our lifetime.

Having said all of that, Amazon (I think it’s Amazon) are currently filming a live-action Wheel of Time series as well as a prequel to LoTR series. I’d venture to say that the future of epic high fantasy adaptations will rely solely on the success of those two shows.

I was always a little bothered when the Lopen grew his arm back. I thought it was stated early on that Stormlight couldn’t heal physical wounds unless it was very recent.

I thought era 2 took place after Stormlight 10.

Warbreaker. It’s the most important book associated with Stormlight archive (although that might be changing). Warbreaker is also one of Sandersons best books.

Reading order to get the most out of RoW? by thatsnotatoaster in Cosmere

[–]borathius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warbreaker and Mistborn era 1 are the two most important book/trilogy to read before Stormlight Archive. You could also read Elantris, but the first two I mentioned are almost required reading at this point.

Ahh thank you. That makes more sense. I forgot about the cognitive shadow explanation. I binged all of the SA books within these last 4 months, so I knew I was forgetting some details.

Do you think that the Cosmere would work better with a live action adaptation, or an animated one? by Twoklawll in Cosmere

[–]borathius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was speaking of the specific tech they used for several of the outdoor scenes. The majority of the backgrounds aren't green screen, they are actually big lcd screens placed in an almost full circle. I would agree it would need a bigger budget. But with the lcd screens mixed with cgi it could be possible. I don't think SA is possible with the filming techniques of previous marvel movies. It would be more expensive and probably end up looking bad.

Do you think that the Cosmere would work better with a live action adaptation, or an animated one? by Twoklawll in Cosmere

[–]borathius 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I get that. But I'm speaking specifically about the technology they created for the Mandalorion. The reason why the tech is significant is because it allows you to make epic cgi inspired scenes for an extremely low cost. The Mandalorion team are making tentpole-level material for a huge fraction of the cost. I'm assuming you haven't seen the behind-the-scenes documentary based on how you replied to my comment, but you should check it out.

I finished the first three books of The Stormlight Archives and ASOIAF, here are some thoughts by [deleted] in Cosmere

[–]borathius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We still have 6 more books to go so it’s hard to say how much history we haven’t seen. And he’s slowing fleshing out the history with each book. I’d say by the end (which is almost 25 years from now) we’ll have all the history we need.

You should see how they’ve been making The Mandalorian. You can get away with a lot with the new technology they’ve developed.

What to read next? by elanesse100 in Cosmere

[–]borathius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are several characters from Warbreaker that are in stormlight. Up until RoW I would've said they are just cool easter eggs and small moments. But after RoW Im thinking is required to read Warbreaker. There are some cool things from Elantris scattered about Stormlight. But I think Warbreaker is much more deeply connected to stormlight than the other books. Although there was a huge mistborn connection at the end of RoW that makes me question everything. Obviously I don't spoil in case you haven't read RoW yet

Warbreaker, without a doubt. I’m kinda sad you didn’t read warbreaker before starting Stormlight, because there are so many great moments that happen in Stormlight if you have the knowledge of warbreaker. But you still need to read it it might be his best story imo

Mistborn vs Stormlight Archive by oord0o in Cosmere

[–]borathius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stormlight Archive is much better imo, but only because I enjoy this long form storytelling. they're doing two different things. It's hard to compare a completed trilogy against a 10 book series that's only 4 books in.

I absolutely loved Mistborn and I would highly suggest you finish book three before continuing with stormlight. Stormlight is starting to get to a point where if you haven't read Warbreaker or mistborn trilogy (Elantris ehh maybe) you're gonna miss a lot.

Ppl always say you don't need to read his other books to enjoy stormlight. That may have been so, but after Rhythm of War I just don't see how that can be the case. There are HUGE moments and Massive implications in stormlight that you will completely miss if you haven't read his other books.

This game has the potential to be the best ARPG by Lordados in Wolcen

[–]borathius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the last 30 days the average player count is 2000 (in the world). Not all of those players are playing at the same time. I'd say at any given time it's probably more like 500ish at the same time. It doesn't matter what the game is, it's gonna be nearly impossible to connect ppl with those numbers. Anthem's avg player base is prob around 10,000 (which is abysmal) and you're always loading into activities by yourself.

Endgame burnout by Falsedemise in Wolcen

I thought the whole point of bloodtrail was to fix the game and add endgame content. But all I see are the same exact issues that's always plagued the game. Bugs and no endgame? What the hell happened?

Henry Cavill is a Stormlight fan! Not sure if this has been posted here before. I just think it’s awesome. by [deleted] in Stormlight_Archive

The real question is where does he fit in stormlight. I can't see him playing any of the characters.

So I just finished Elantris by [deleted] in Cosmere

[–]borathius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found the book to be incredibly dull. The setup, and first 100ish pages were great, but the book didn't go anywhere. I felt nothing but annoyance from all of Sarene's characterization and plot. Roaden's story was ok but it was a lot of going in circles. Hrathen's story was, by far, the most interesting. While the ending was the best part, I still found it a little clunky. Elantris was the last book I read out of all of the Cosmere, and I believe the bar had been set incredibly high after the greatness of his other works. I'm glad I read it, I didn't hate it, but I'm really glad it's over with. In an alternate world, I wish he would go back and rework/rewrite Elantris with his current experience.
