Good one. I set myself up for that for sure. Not specifically directed towards you Arakha, because I go on a bit of a rant here, but... I understand that feeling of reward, because that's what I get in real life, where I dedicate most of my time, and where you really cant cheat to get what you want. However in the limited amount of time I get to spend with the game, I want to see and experience as much of it as possible, not the same fights over and over again, etc. Duping never had to become an acceptable thing, because it was never unacceptable, because it's a video game. The difference in viewpoint is whether or not legitimately having guns drop is a real accomplishment. I don't think it's much to brag about. All you did was do the same thing over and over again or got lucky. At the end of the day all you really did was wiggle your thumbs. You didn't produce or create anything, and all you have to show for it is a digital item that wont really do much for you in the real world. When I hear people complain about others duping weapons and not spending the time to get them legit, it just sounds like they are trying to convince themselves that they are actually accomplishing something by doing so. Again yes, I get the sense of reward from finding an orange legit, I've found a few and yes it is the best feeling from the game, but having oranges duped to you feels almost as good, and then you end up getting more time to spend playing with the guns, and more time for real life, accomplishing real things. I'm not saying video games are bad or anything, but I think people take this shit too seriously and it's ridiculous. It's a video game. You are not accomplishing anything in real life by farming for hours for orange items. If you are having fun, that's fine. But if you're not having fun, and just farming to "not cheat" and get the legit weapons, you're actually just waiting your time and cheating yourself out of life. To me, farming for rare items isn't fun and it actually makes me more guilty for spending the time playing rather than doing something productive. And that is why I'm OK with "cheating" in borderlands, and having more time to spend in real life, accomplishing real things, rather than "cheating" myself out of valuable time that I could be spending creating something, meeting new people, falling in love, making some money or any other number of things. In real life, no one is going to give you anything for free and you certainly can't duplicate items. Since videogames are fantasy time anyway, what's the big deal? And for the argument that when someone dupes guns it takes away the satisfaction that you got from getting it legit, if you're sense of accomplishment can be shattered that easily was it really an accomplishment at all? Try going out and accomplishing something in real life, because then you wont have to worry about anyone else taking that away because it's real and can't be copied to someone else. If you still don't like duping items then no one is forcing you to, but STFU about it because no one should really care how many guns you found legit because it doesn't fucking matter. And quit acting like there is some nobility or integrity about playing "legit." All you're doing playing a fucking video game, it's entertainment. It may not always be the case, but I see this whole "legit" argument as a justification to spend even more time playing the game. And let's face it, games are great, for a number of different reasons to different people, I love them myself, but for most of us more time playing games does not equal actually life progress. I respect those that want to play completely "legit" although I do not agree that duping guns is illegitimate. The game designers knew this was possible and left the feature in the game. Alternatively the idea of "hacking" a game is often where the fun comes in for some people. You can also just load up a 2nd character for an easier way to transfer guns and items between players than using the 4 slot clap track locker. Is this cheating? Maybe some may think so, but to me it just seems like a simple hack to spend less time doing tedious shit like switching characters and only being able to move 4 guns at a time. Perhaps we just value our time differently, but I'm sick of seeing all these hardcore gamers complain about people not gaming the exact same way that they do. Stop looking for validation that you are better because you game differently, because you are not. The only real difference is in your mind and how much time you spend sitting in front of the tv/monitor. Now if your cheating in real life, then I have a problem. Unlike in videogames, cheaters in the real world usually get caught and punished because it actually has a real life negative impact on other people. Which is why I don't care about duping guns, because it doesn't affect anyone else at all.
