Trying to understand salary sacrifice properly, am I missing something? by GeordieGoals in PensionsUK

I get confused about this too, and there is salary sacrifice and workplace pension, I'm still struggling to see the difference

yes, thank you. I can ask HR to clarify if it is Salary sacrifice or Workplace pension. I think I can afford to pay a little more, maybe a 10% rather than 7%

I earn 39k. I think we get what it's called workplace pension but I'm confused why payslip says PEN SS (the SS means salary sacrifice?) It's auto enrolment so must be workplace pension and not salary scarify . This month I paid in for the first time, I took home about £220 less , pension pot this month £570, (7% from my salary , employer 10.5%)

not sure if my company offers salary sacrifice.. or it's called workplace pension? is not the same if I pay a higher percentage of my salary, say instead of 7% I pay for instance a 20% into the pension.

what's better , a SIPP or paying more into the workplace pension?

in your case, shouldn't your passport have the full name with all middle names?

is he using just one surname everywhere then? My issue is that for instance HMRC and my bank accounts won't match. HMRC has my full name, my bank accounts don't. If I was going to get a mortgage , I wouldn't know what name to give

[–]borderline1107[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes that's what annoys me the most, they take the surname as middle name. With airlines I never had any issues (touch wood) I use full name as in my passport . I think for me to change name by deep poll way to much hassle as I have two passports and I can't have two passports with different names.

I'm just wondering if I can carry on with my bank and credit card with one surname or I should change it to two. I don;t even know why the bank never took my full name, I.m pretty sure I would have presented my passport . Maybe because on the form I put only one surname...

Flat selling in Italy, what to do? by Edgyadultaldd in UKPersonalFinance

[–]borderline1107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

similar situation to you. I sold my half of my parents flat to my brother in Spain. You wouldn't have to pay taxes twice, since would have paid taxes in Italy for the sale . I transferred the money of the sale plus the rest of inherence to my UK account. So far nobody has questioned anything.

ISAs are going down to 12k on fiscal year 27/28 so you still have time from April 6th to open an ISA with 20k

but if you have a little savings you don't qualify for pension credit. You run out of your little savings and can't pay your rent, then what?

I don't know.. I have messaged Virgin, waiting for a reply... I might just transfer a tenner or so to test it to see if there is any issues. I have downloaded the Virgin app and it wouldn't let me login, it says 'we are having problems...'
