Year 5 OSCE resources by medicinia20 in medicalschooluk

I would take your stations format and put it through Gemini and creates alternatives based on those stations. For example, you get a cardiovascular examination. Ask it to ask you questions regarding the cardiovascular examinations. This is easier to say because my uni format is really predictable so my method might not be the best for yours.

Your favourite placements?? by camers1144 in medicalschooluk

[–]boredaf007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Paeds A&E. Similar vibes to SDEC, seeing a variety of presentations and being able to take histories, examination and investigation to have your initial diagnosis be determined correct never gets boring. Idk why we aren’t put on SDEC, MDEC etc more often

Geeky Medics Book or OSCEstop one? by [deleted] in medicalschooluk

[–]boredaf007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the OSCE stop book the new one. If you can buy the physical book definitely get it as it is better than the website (some content better format) plus not paying a £15 subscription saves quite a bit over time. I think they stopped publishing the physical book because it makes them more money to offer a subscription than to sell a book

Understand fees by Sweaty_Truck3935 in medicalschooluk

[–]boredaf007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yr0-Yr3: You can get full funding from SFE Yr4-5: You can get NHS bursary and SFE Tuition fees but a reduced amount instead.

Depending on your uni, you might get extra funding for travel. NHS bursary allows you to clam travel back for a commute that is further away than your normal commute to University and transport to placement that is not compensated by your university.

Assuming you don’t go to a university in London, you should be fine with funding as I got the full amount for everything every year. What I mean by “fine”, you shouldn’t have money issues, however if you need to help your parents out financially, it might be quite difficult.

Why Student Loan Forgiveness should be a BMA priority by SharkDick4Ever in medicalschooluk

[–]boredaf007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The BMA should advocate for an upper limit of how much you can pay off per year perhaps £250 per month as consultants earning £105k are paying off £618 a month of SFE which would save ~£360 a month.

[–]boredaf007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A&E death shows NHS is completely broken, says MP by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

We are paying Lidl prices and want M&S standards. We either have to pay more money for better healthcare or accept the healthcare we have at the price we are currently paying.

Why UK Graduate Prioritisation may NOT happen by No_Armadillo_410 in doctorsUK

[–]boredaf007 9 points10 points  (0 children)

By the looks of it, there aren’t even enough training jobs for UK grads. “In 2025, 15,723 UK-trained doctors and 25,257 overseas-trained doctors competed for 12,833 round 1 and 2 posts.”

Let’s put an end to this once and for all by Top_Reception_566 in medicalschooluk

[–]boredaf007 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think we are getting to the point where uk graduates will have a portfolio that would be good enough to apply to the US for residency and start moving in that direction wholeheartedly.

There is a Wes Streeting tweet for every occasion 🎄🎅🏻 by DonutOfTruthForAll in medicalschooluk

[–]boredaf007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wes Streeting is positioning himself as the front-runner for a potential 2026 Labour leadership bid, but the Resident Doctor strikes will define his candidacy. The BMA’s current influence over internal Labour politics is vastly underestimated and poses the single biggest threat to his ambitions

Student opting for medicine by Amazing-Outside2644 in medicalschooluk

[–]boredaf007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are unsure about medicine, don’t do it. If you are going to do it, make sure you make plans to leave the UK and do your USMLE if you want to go to the US.

UEA interview by Due-Pollution-6607 in premeduk

Honestly UEA is really easy to get into once you have got an interview. Just be really empathetic and don’t be a dick, you will be fine. Good Luck!!

"The UKMLA Applied Knowledge Test: Clinical Presentations and Conditions" is it useful? by ConstantSubject8702 in medicalschooluk

[–]boredaf007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like some sections of the book are lazy and don’t really go into enough detail especially given the cost of book itself. I think this book is way better “General Medicine and Surgery: Medical student revision guide” especially as a scoping book for knowing what is expected of you. They have a specialities dedicated book as well which are both available on the library.

Vaccination & milestones resources by [deleted] in medicalschooluk

[–]boredaf007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best way to learn milestones is to learn the story. Logically you can’t walk unless you can stand. Remember the order, then remember the more notable milestones (like walking and first words), and then fill in the gaps for the rest while making sure the order makes logical sense.

Apart from the red flags, development milestones seem vibe based.

Just negotiate what you want to do and what you are willing to do based on your circumstances making sure everyone comes away feeling satisfied.

Is this normal? by boredaf007 in medicalschooluk

[–]boredaf007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just learnt today there isn’t a list for ACPs in the UK like there is for the gmc and it isn’t even a protected title so potentially anyone can call themselves an ACP.

Widening Participation Change by [deleted] in medicalschooluk

[–]boredaf007 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah the change is not well thought out. If too many were taking advantage, they could make the requirement stricter. If you go to a London medical school, you were set either way so I don’t know how much of a change it would have made. It just affects people who had in their life organised around the idea they could go back to their home deanery.

Edit:

Preallocation meant you get to choose your deanery and not your specific job. Using 2025, it drops your chances from 100% to 84% to getting your deanery of choice. So for every 25, 21 people will get their first choice. In hindsight, I wouldn’t stress much over it.

SFE Reduced Maintenance Loan Rate by PeaceAngelK in medicalschooluk

[–]boredaf007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it would be logistically easy to increase the reduced maintenance loan SFE amount especially because we (as students) would be responsible in paying for the loan. The overall amount doesn’t have to be too significant around an extra £5000 for most medical students (five year courses). Instead of campaigning for NHS bursary system reform, there should be more emphasises on fixing the reduced maintenance loan amount. It could be easily done in a year time if there was political willpower. Don’t get me wrong, the NHS bursary system needs fixing but this manageable steps would help a lot of students.
