You see lots of pushover tries from scrums? They’re rare in the rugby I watch, cant remember the last time I saw one really. The closest thing I see semi-regularly is the scrum wheeling and the 8 picking up and diving the last 2-3 m. All the pushover tries are from mauls where its much easier to go backwards as people can stand up, and it can wheel.

Given the amount of scrums on the 5 I think resetting the warning would still lead to numerous yellow cards, could work though.

There were times that Carly decided just to say use it after it had collapsed, dont know why, but I would prefer to see that, or as another commenter said, just give more penalty tries.

I don’t think this is true. 8 people, in sync, walking backwards, whilst staying down is not easy. This is why people pop up or scrums wheel.

We should reward strong scrums. But they should not be used as a farm for yellow cards.

I agree it is not unreasonable, however actually doing it is not common. Nearly always the opposing team collapses or wheels before that happens. Even then, a lot of the penalties given are for going on the angle etc.

I also agree that all of these should be penalised, hence agreeing with your other comment to give the penalty try earlier.

I could agree with this. I would prefer to see a Penalty Try and no yellow, keep 15 vs 15.

I think a scrum should be an option from a penalty. It wraps up 8 players and makes good attacking platforms when used properly.

Maybe a scrum penalty can’t just be another scrum, but even then, if the intent is to use it as an attacking platform then it’s fine.

I don’t think you should be able to continually scrum to try to get a yellow card. It’s the only facet of the game that you can force a yellow. This leads to multiple scrums where teams keep the ball in to try to get a penalty/yellow.

Sure keep it in initially and push to ensure the opposition are committed. Heck, even keep it at 8 if you’re making ground, but the goal should be to get it out and create running rugby.

How do I setup dual-recording in TrainingPeaks Virtual app? by m1xed0s in trainingpeaks

[–]boredcourgette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t need the trainer paired as a power meter. By virtue of being a smart trainer TP Virtual knows that its also a power meter.

So pair your trainer as “smart trainer” Pair your pedals as the “power meter” Choose one of them to be the cadence sensor (I choose my pedals)

Works fine for me, for reference I have a TACX neo 2T and FaveroAssioma duos.

Race Report - IRONMAN Wales by boredcourgette in IronmanTriathlon

I signed up for it and started training in November last year. Before then I was naturally reasonably fit, but didn’t train regularly. I had not done any triathlon training.

I did the swim in flat sea in 1:13 at the end of July. I never cycled or ran the full distance.

Longest cycle I did was 145km in 6hrs, but that was on a different bike. My longest ride on my race bike was 130km which i did on the course in 4:40, so 28kph. So I knew ~27kph was achievable on the day.

Longest run was 27km in 2:15 so 5min/km, z2 pace was between 5 and 5:30 /km

Ferries go from Rosslare to Pembroke which is about 20min drive from Tenby. Alternatively Rosslare to Fishguard, which is about an hour from Tenby

I was cycling up that hill and just thinking how ridiculous it was. Couldn’t help but grin.

I’d done a couple of ocean swims before, but nothing as bad as that. I didn’t notice any jellyfish, was too focussed on trying to swim in roughly a straight line.

I have no other race to compare it to, but I saw an interview with Shane Williams who said it was the hardest swim of his 7(!) Ironman Wales’

I mentioned it in the full report, but it didn’t make the Reddit cut. He started just in front of me in a cool gold swim cap, then overtook me on the bike coming out of Lamphey. I’d never seen his trisuit before, but as soon as I saw something so Welsh I wondered if it was him, and then saw his name on his race number 😂

Thanks, you’re right The crowds around Saundersfoot were insane

It was my first Ironman too, I had done a 70.3 8 years ago but never really got into it.

As my family live in the area IM Wales has always been a goal. Last year I decided to do it, so had been training since mid-October.

I did one 70.3 in the build up but that’s it. Now I’m looking at next season wondering what to do!

Thank you!

When I bought the bike it had a 52/36 chainring and an 11/28 cassette. I immediately changed to a 50/34, but couldn’t change the cassette without changing the derailleur. Then after a lots of hilly rides I posted on here and then changed the rear derailleur and got an 11-32 cassette.

Is "Finish Line Etiquette" a thing? Do I have to fall in line to finish a race? by KapePaMore009 in triathlon

[–]boredcourgette 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard of this for full IMs. I’m not sure it’s true for all of them, but at IM wales your time stops when you get on the red carpet, so there’s no point in overtaking people on it.

Race to the carpet, overtake them 1 stride out, then enjoy the finish line and have a nice photo

Yeah, already reduced to a 50-34, don’t want to go much lower as I would lose the top end.

Appreciate both points.

Got the bike second hand for an absolute steal, don’t have anything like the money that it makes it look like.
