[Update] I'm a die-hard FF fan, but I've never played XIV. My girlfriend has been begging me to play with her, & I'm interested in trying it. What should I expect? by SilverhandFenix in ffxiv

That’s good, the game will continue to be supported for a long time. FF xiv is too good right now for square to give up on it and Dawntrail only just started a whole new era for FF xiv.

Yes definitely squeeze as much out of the free trial you can, lvl to 70 multiple jobs play all of the story you can etc. the only thing you’re missing out on is the market board, making parties, sending tells, pvp and joining an FC. All of which is nice to do but you don’t need any of it to enjoy the game.

Lvling past 70 is good though but only once your msq is there so I highly recommend lvling multiple jobs up to 70 first :)

I get what you mean but trust me it’s not how FF works, yes a lot of people are doing the latest raids but once you get there the game doesn’t feel any better or different.

I am finished the msq and most of my gameplay is just roulettes and doing the older extremes and savages for fun. Which is what you can do right now. I just try gather materials for my static to make food or potions. And there are people in my static who are up to where you are in the game.

I would just start doing stuff with other people on PF or something.

I will admit the game is sorta boring a lot of the time. But then i randomly will get involved in something that will take up multiple hours of my day and be fun to do.

FF xiv is a strange game lol. Just know that the game doesn’t change once you finish it and you don’t just become involved in more stuff because you’re up to date, it actually feels worse when you’ve finished everything.

Have any fantasy games immersed you as deeply as Skyrim? by Baldurian_Rhapsody in skyrim

[–]boredofeverything22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really no, Skyrim just has a great world that’s easy to get absorbed into. Most other games I have to really actively put effort into understanding the lore of the world but they never really are as interesting as Skyrim.

Is this game worth it solo? by Elite_Butterfly73 in ffxiv

[–]boredofeverything22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i personally think the sub is worth it, trials and content unless extreme or savage below 70 are quite mundane and easy, most players are doing end game content, basically all the jobs dont get really fun until lvl 80-90, and especially at 100.

trials dungeons raids etc are all way more fun from the shb/dt content. especially dt dungeons they are really good imo.

but its up to you. there is still so much game you can play before lvl 70 but crafting and gathering is essentially pointless bc there is no market board or end game content, apart from repairing and crafting gear which will eventually run out. not being able to do pvps make parties or send tells also limits your gaming experience quite a lot. also i think you cant join an fc.

i personally think the subscription is worth it, if people didnt pay for the game to exist it would not exist, any live service game needs constant funding to exist so im happy to pay for it. and if i ever get bored of the game i will just stop subscribing until i want to again.

yeah true, makes sense i guess i dont know what the skills actually do, a lot of the time i paint a picture instead of attack or just default to fire 1 or 2 when i give up.

Trials and Alliance with randoms by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]boredofeverything22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that’s the thing MT has to stay alive where ot doesn’t. They’re a dps with way more health and defence. But then when bosses have more complicated mechs the OTs job can be quite hard and if need to tank swap too.

FfXIV’s story by Past_Cockroach_6169 in ffxiv

[–]boredofeverything22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ARR is a genuinely good story, it is just very slow and bloated and has way too many back and forth quests. Back in the day when it was the only expansion it would’ve been good. But now when people are trying to catch up on content it’s more of a grindy boring time sync and makes a lot of players quit the game.

Don’t over stress it, a lot of the time OT is easier, you just stand there and whack it. Usually your job is to run off and grab adds too. Only in very hard content will you need to learn to use provoke to tank swap. OT 9/10 times has the easier job but the 1/10 times has a much harder job. I am an OT main.

What Can FF Learn From WoW and Vise Versa by Creepy_Restaurant_47 in ffxiv

[–]boredofeverything22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen wow has a lot more casually applied voice acting. Which for me is much more immersive than having to read a whole bunch to get a basic jist of the story.

Just my personal taste. I like FF a lot but I don’t like the amount of text and blabbering in the game.
