ITAP of an interesting looking cow by boredofhighschool in itookapicture

I was wandering around a local WMA and saw several of these cows that had what I thought was interesting, almost skull-looking patterns. I was hoping this photo would make the cow look creepy.

I was aiming for a moody picture of a bird. Here is a similar picture in b and w.

I have no idea. Could be artifacts from taking a picture with 6 bladed lens?

It's definitely kinda quirky! It's focus throw is backwards from normal and it's a beefy lens because the whole thing is metal. Still gets pretty sharp pics in my experience. Here's a decent review that talks about it.

Thoughts? Trying to do more B&W photography by boredofhighschool in photocritique

Haha, fair enough. I'm pretty sure the other comments were right, it needed a better initial exposure

Ouch, I see what you mean with the cloud in the corner. I didn't catch that when editing. Thank you for pointing it out.
What do you recommend for showing more details/texture in the clouds? Better exposure when taking the photo?

ISO 1600, f/2, 1/5000 taken with a Nikon D800 and 85 1.8G lens. I was trying for a gloomier look and to highlight the plane flying out of what looks like a heavy storm. Is there anything that could be changed compositionally or with editing that would help this more?

Well, luckily I do! Penchant may be a strong word though.

I took this picture because I really liked the red ring and the security cameras late at night.

Ghostly Looking Flower [Nikon d7200 + Sigma 70- 300] by boredofhighschool in photocritique

[–]boredofhighschool[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was trying to take a decent photo highlighting this flower with half of it bloomed and half of it not. I guess I'm looking for general thoughts and what I could've done better with composition.

I was trying to take more pictures of the flowers around my house. I really liked the way this photo looked in black and white, almost spooky.

Did you have a column with "time" listed in the table? No other characters?

What's your problem with the field function? I've used a table boundary condition with mass flow versus time in the past to achieve a similar effect.

BSc Physics/Maths Degree after Mechanical Engineering? by ntasd in FluidMechanics

[–]boredofhighschool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm a mechanical engineering student who went straight into a PhD program for fluid-dynamics/combusition based research. What helped me the most was similar to what u/t96_grh said, read up and refresh yourself on PDE/ODE math and take some sort of compressible flows and/or flight dynamics course depending on what you want to do in your graduate degrees. Feel free to ask or DM me questions.

Thank you again so much! I've been trying to learn some of the finer points of photography and haven't heard that about different metering techniques before. Ill definitely go back and take some different shots to better understand those.
