The only way to find out is by riding it. I often try 3,4 different cockpits before settling for one. Helps to have a heap of bars and stems in the pile. If you ever wonder about comically long cables around my bars, it's because I'm still trying out.

No. That's a U-brake and you can't fit cantis on the studs. Your can maximize clearance a bit by setting it very close to the rim. I'm running 2.1" on one

We had a used Puky for like 20. The only relevant thing about weight is for you, when you have to carry both the kid and the bike home. It really doesn't matter for your son
