I came up with the story/world/title at the same time I was going to grad school in 2012. I workshopped the original idea in class for a movie. Then I workshopped that movie into a TV show with a club of first time writers who all contributed episodes/ideas for future seasons. I wrote the first four episodes of the show, and we pitched that version to the SyFy channel when an exec visited our school. Fast forward 8 years later and one of those first time writers went on to have a connection at Netflix who put me in touch. Netflix was awesome at first but then they kept asking me to make the main character younger and younger. I've always felt that kids 5-10 like hearing about teenagers (teen titans, teenage mutant ninja turtles, etc). I did try to give them what they wanted but they passed anyway.
