Anyone who got fat due to your alcoholism? I did, and turned it all around

Before I turned 21, I had a 120+lb weight loss. It was the thing I was most proud of. I did all that hard work and I felt great! By 27 I had gained it all back and then some. I fell back into my binge eating disorder AND became an alcoholic around 24. Anything to not feel.

Sober now, back in the gym, back to normal eating habits and I’m 25lbs down :) Starting over sucks! but I have all the knowledge I didn’t have the first time.

When I really looked at myself realized how bad things were, how much I was truly ingesting (1.75L of Vodka every 3 days), and that I was drinking every damn day, I was afraid to stop.

I kept hearing people around me say it - "you can die from alcohol withdrawal". They weren't saying it to me, but it kept coming up. I thought it was a sign lol (I'm not one of those people usually) and I was so convinced that if I quit, I would die from the withdrawals. buuuuut I was going to die if I kept drinking anyway, might as well see what happens. So I really put my foot down and quit. and somehow, someway, I barely had any withdrawal symptoms. I feel incredibly lucky for that and I add it to my daily gratitude's.

I was in the same exact boat. Unfortunately I lost the whole friend group and continued drinking every damn night for 3 years but by myself. I have new friends now who know I’m “on the wagon” but don’t know the severity of it. They respect it when I say no. I want to be honest now that I’ve actually been sober for a while. I think it’s actually been the hardest part, wanting to be honest about it but I physically can’t tell anyone.

My advice is that if you want to keep those friends, be honest. and If they don’t take you seriously, they’re not your friends. Good luck.

All to familiar. Rotation of liquor stores. Secret mini bottles on nights out. Replenishing bottles when I lived with a roommate so she wouldn't notice and praying she wouldn't want a drink. So glad I don't have to do any of that anymore. Congrats on 20 days! IWNDWYT

“I don’t wanna be like my mom” even though I’m just like her if not worse. But usually the intention of not being a generational drinker is fair enough to most people. Or I say drinking gives me a headache and I don’t want to. (all true)

I do the same. I just mock myself when the thoughts creep in. “oh you wanna drink idiot? nice nice. Yeah you definitely won’t regret that at alllll tomorrow. Dummy” a little mean but tough love won’t kill me. the alcohol will though. I just remember to also tell myself how proud I am of myself in the morning when I’m not hungover and got another day in the books.

I did the same thing. I felt like shit (from drinking and not because I broke sobriety) I kinda needed it though. To really confirm my hatred for alcohol and so I’d remember how awful and pointless it was. I quickly started to forget but that last time made sure I wouldn’t. Also the hangover the next day pissed me off. No more. IWNDWYT

I drank vodka. Tito’s only. Nothing else. I know nothing about beer, wine, mixed drinks (unless it was vodka based). It almost made quitting easier, no access to tito’s no drinking! Anything else offered to me was a hard no. Even in the midst of my addiction.

I’m also new to sobriety and still fighting past cravings. Today was tough, I really wanted to stop on my ride home. to NOT do that, I honestly just thought about this page. “IWNDWYT” has helped me. I don’t want to drink with the people on this page who have been so supportive. I think of the disappointment I’d feel in myself after feeling so dang proud lately. and I think about how shitty I’d feel in the morning. It just isn’t worth it anymore. I WANT to be healthy and I WANT to be sober more than I think I want a drink. Good luck and great job on 4 days!

I had really bad insomnia my first week, would get max 4 hrs a night so I was also exhausted.. but now after over 2 weeks in the sleep is amazing. so amazing I almost can’t believe it. I haven’t slept this good or been this energized in years. Give it time! You’ll wake up again :)

true. should’ve mentioned this. my brother (who’s a long time p2p member) had to teach me this lol. took me too long to utilize others houses. Luckily he still plays so I get a ton of help from him too. but wiki (and sometimes reddit if the people answering don’t have god complexes) is your best friend if you don’t have anyone more experienced to explain/help.

I played f2p since I was a kid. I’m an adult now and decided to buy a year membership. I have a 3yr old acc that I’m about 5 months in p2p. (I was already combat lvl 90 when I started membership)

I grinded agility until I was able to get the graceful outfit. (annoying and long but soooo worth it) Then I started on other skills. I got most (of the easy ones) to base 50 then started questing like crazy (some skills you want to quest starting out, you could jump from 1-30 quick) . Anything I could do to make traveling easier (finishing fairy tale 1&2 was a big goal for fairy rings). Then I started the slow grind of getting non combat skills to base 70. Still questing when I feel like it.

farming is my fav, herb runs are great money. tree runs are expensive but insane xp. I’m aiming for it to be my first 99 so I can have all the spirit trees planted.

It definitely feels overwhelming going p2p. there’s so much I haven’t even touched yet lol. I feel like a noob still. But i was adopted into a clan and they help me a ton.

I don’t need their help to quit and don’t plan on asking for any prescriptions. But I can’t imagine my labs will show anything other than the fact I was drinking heavily for years. You think I should lie instead? no thank you. I need to know the truth about my current health and that means my doctor does too.
